Fiber Rich Food Good For Kidney Stone Patients

6:27:00 AM
Kidney stones are remarkably painful ailment that is common to find these days. It is a highly painful disease in which the patient tends to feel a lot of pain in his lower abdomen and back. Prior to any kind of treatment it is really essential to know what kind of stones is developed in a patient. Kidney stones may consist of a variety of organic and mineral material.

Most normal people form small crystals of calcium phosphate, magnesium phosphate, uric acid, calcium oxalate but these crystals do not grow large enough to form stones large enough to obstruct the flow of fluid from the kidney through the ureter to the bladder. It is found that approximately 13% of Americans tend to experience this fatal disease at least once of symptomatic kidney stones in their lifetime. Another study points out that men are twice more susceptible to kidney stones in comparison to women. Aside from the extreme pain involved in passing a kidney stone there is also the danger of permanent damage to the kidney.
When stones grow very large they can stay in the renal pelvis area and set the stage for secondary kidney infections. When smaller kidney stones pass through the ureter they can cause severe lower back pain that may be accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Blood in the urine can also result from passing kidney stones or from kidney infections.

Latest research has shown that fiber-rich foods are highly beneficial for kidney stone patients. It is also found that some fiber-rich foods contain certain compounds that help a person protect against kidney stones. A wide variety of high-fiber plant foods contain a compound called phytate (also called inositol hexaphosphate, InsP6, or IP6), which appears to help prevent crystallization of calcium salts, both oxalate and phosphate. Phytate is found in legumes and wheat and rice bran. Increasing fiber in diet is highly benefical for kidney stones. Fiber includes oat and wheat bran, beans, whole-wheat breads, wheat cereals, cabbage, and carrots. Increasing the fibe content is fiber is considered as the most healthy way of preventing and treating kidney stones. By:

Cabbage Soup Detox Diet

9:59:00 AM
A cabbage soup detox diet is a good way to cleanse your system and remove toxins periodically. The cabbage soup diet is one form of a detox diet. This diet is known by several names including the Mayo Clinic Diet, the Russian Peasant Diet, TJ's Miracle Diet, the Banana Diet, and the Sacred Heart Diet. Cabbage soup is a filler for this diet. You can eat all the cabbage soup you want, but the diet includes a variety of other foods as well. It's not just cabbage soup!

Totally absent from the diet are all processed foods. Also carbohydrates are very limited and sugar is out too. Even though the diet includes a variety of foods, the foods are all quite simple and basic. It is described as a detox diet but it is also a weight loss diet too. The claim is that you will lose ten pounds in seven days. Many people verify that this is possible.
The plus is that you get plenty to eat so there is little chance of really getting hungry. You'll be eating fruits and vegetables plus meat on some days and potatoes and rice too. Though you may very well crave your favorite foods that aren't allowed, you only do the diet for a week. This is not a long-term way to eat. It's just a short-term cleansing diet and a way to drop a few pounds in a hurry. Many people feel better after eliminating refined foods for a short time and that is what this diet plan does.

If you have determined to change the way you eat this diet plan is a good way to start. The plan will get you off to a start on your weight loss goals and motivate you to progress to a long-term eating plan. Combine a sensible eating plan with exercise and you can feel better and drop the weight you need to lose.

Each day of the diet you eat only certain foods plus all the cabbage soup you want. No exotic foods are required. No expensive pills or supplements. Just basic foods plus the cabbage soup. And you can make the soup in many different ways depending on what you like. This is a relatively painless detox diet and weight loss plan that will work for you.By :

How to Minify Problem Caused by Sweat

7:00:00 AM
Sweating is a natural process of the body. Human body needs to sweat to maintain the normal temperature. But when the level of sweating becomes excessive, the condition is known as hyperhidrosis. However, this condition can be treated if you have the right knowledge of how to deal with problem sweat. In order to deal with the problem of excessive sweating, it is very important to know the causes behind it.

The condition of excessive sweating is linked with over activity in the sympathetic nervous system that controls the release of Acetylcholine, a kind of neurotransmitter that tells the body to sweat. The over-reaction of this Acetylcholine produces excess sweat. Some of the factors that contribute to excess sweating problem are obesity, poor diet, anxiety etc.

But there are solutions that will help you to minify problem caused by sweat. But you must remember that you should utilize these solutions properly to get the best results.

Try Antiperspirants: This is the first step that you should utilize to beat problem sweat. Antiperspirants contain aluminum chloride that helps to block sweat ducts to prevent excessive sweating. However, application and timing is very important. Apply them twice a day i.e. morning and evening to allow body to fight effectively. The best time to apply is after bath. However, make sure that antiperspirants are not applied after shaving as the skin pores tend to remain open. Make sure that you are using antiperspirants with mild-formula base. This will not only protect your skin, but help your body to fight against sweat.

Keep a Watch on your Diet: It is myth that only people who is over-weight tends to suffer from problem sweat or hyperhidrosis. But in reality, even if you have normal body weight, your diet might contribute to excessive sweat problems. So, it is advisable to keep a close watch on what you are eating. Include healthy, natural and unprocessed food in your diet like fruits, leafy vegetables, dairy products and fish. Regular intake of these foods makes the immune system of the body powerful and helps body to deal with problem sweat naturally. Try to avoid spicy and junk food and drink plenty of water instead of cola based drinks.

Wear Comfortable Fabrics: Sweating is a natural process that helps the body to keep cool. But sometimes due to obstructions body suffers from problem sweat. In order to avoid this kind of problems it is best to wear light, comfortable and breathable clothes that allow natural air to pass through body. Cotton clothes fits into this criteria perfectly. Polyester and nylon fabric prevents ventilation and only contributes to trap sweat to produce body odor.

Use Clothing Shields: Sweat liners or clothing shields help a lot to fight with problem sweat. Made from pure cotton material, these clothing shields not only absorb sweat from the body, but also help to maintain the right level of ventilation. You can use washable cotton shields for best protection at an affordable rate. Disposable shields are equally helpful to minimize problem sweat.

A Coffee Diet-I've Heard It All Now

8:05:00 AM
A coffee diet! I've heard the lot now. The next thing you know we'll be having something like 'loose 10 pounds in 7 days with tea and biscuits!' I mean, who comes up with these fat blasting ideas? Or more importantly, who buys into them? You can just imagine it in the staffroom at your workplace. Everyone fighting to get their Cornish pasty in the microwave and there's you quietly preparing your lunch with nothing but a kettle. Okay, ribbing aside, I guess we should look at this diet in a little more detail and see what method is behind this seeming madness.
The article, which was in a slimming magazine, caught my eye for a couple of reasons. First, because I'm a lover of java, and second, I could do with losing a few pounds myslef, so I couldn't help but read it out of curiosity if nothing else. When I got to thinking about this, I remember my mother always telling to drink a cup of black coffee in the morning as it would curb my appetite until lunch time. And she was right.
Anyway, moving on a tad, the advocates of the coffee diet propose that anyone who wants to shed a bit of weight should do the same as my mother's suggested, although they made no reference to her personally you understand!
However, this weird weight loss approach needs to be looked into a little deeper before we all jump onto the coffee diet bandwagon mouth first. I mean, there's such an abundance of get-thin-quick plans floating around these days, it's best to take a couple of steps back and consider the situation. This goes for any of the new found fads and not just the coffee diet
Before embarking on any new weight loss program, it's always wise to pay a visit to your local doctor first. A complete physical never hurt anyone and your physician will have valuable insight into the coffee diet approach, but somehow I can't see any responsible doc giving the thumbs up to a drinks for food diet. Take the coffee diet to an authorized nutritionist and I bet the response is the same. I could be wrong though and you may find through these two visits that a coffee diet is the probably the right thing for your weight loss needs.
You know, we're always looking for the next lazy, or should I say easy, no, perhaps effortless weight loss program, but despite it all, the old fashion way still wins every time. Can you remember the original diet? It's simply to put less in your mouth and get more exercise. That's it! Okay, so there are a few whistles and bells to add like the right types of food and a sensible exercise regime, but you get the idea.
Another thing worth pointing out with the coffee diet is that it's supposedly a quick fix and not a new way of eating (or starving), so perhaps if the dieter uses it as a jump start to a more sensible eating plan, it's not such a bad thing. It also went on to say in the article that the coffee diet is not the foundation of the program. Now this probably doesn't make a lot of sense, so I'll try to explain. Advocates of the coffee diet strongly urge you to eat well throughout the day. By well, they mean adopt a healthy food diet consuming small portions as part of the regime.
The coffee diet simply allows the dieter a moderate intake of coffee throughout the day time, but the coffee has to be pure. Lattes and cappuccinos and all those other fandangled coffee cups are out. Hmm! it's sounds ok, but at the end of the day, we're still not eating properly because the coffee diet is removing our natural appetite and I'm not totally convinced that's a good thing.
One final point that may give you food for thought is your insulin. Caffeine can make your blood sugar unstable. The insulin in your body will not be able to process it properly and it winds up stored in the body as fat. So, if you do decide to take on the coffee diet, make sure that you don't drink too much.

4 Health Benefits of Watermelons

9:00:00 AM
Think back to when you were a child and when during the summer months, the pinnacle of cookouts and family gatherings was always the cold juicy watermelon that was for desert. When you were young, eating watermelon was about taste. Now that you're older, it's more than just taste that should inspire you to eat lots of watermelon each year when the season arises. It's because watermelons have tremendous health benefits that anyone who lives a healthy lifestyle should be determined to take advantage of every year. Let's take a closer look at some of these health benefits this fruit has to offer.

Health Benefit of Watermelons #1 Lycopene

Lycopene is an antioxidant found in most red colored fruits, with the exception of a few things such as strawberries. Scientific studies have shown that Lycopene reduces the risk of prostate cancer and heart disease in people. People who eat a diet high in lycopene are much less likely to suffer a heart attack then men who don't.

Health Benefit of Watermelons #2 Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 is an important attribute to have in a healthy diet because it promotes chemicals in the brain that help people to cope with anxiety and panic. These are two psychological disorders that are on the rise in America today.

Health Benefit of Watermelons #3 Vitamin C

If you thought oranges were the only fruit that could provide you with Vitamin C, think again. Vitamin C is important to not only being healthy, but remaining attractive all your life. Vitamin C boosts the immune system so that you get sick less often and it also slows down aging and medical conditions such as cataract.

Health Benefit of Watermelons #4 Vitamin A

Vitamin A works much like Vitamin C, in that it helps boost immunity, but it also help your body fight off infection. It also prevents blindness.

As you can see, eating watermelon is almost tantamount to taking a multivitamin every morning, but with a much better taste. Watermelons are seasonal, which means that they are not available all year long. It means that when they are in season you should make sure and take advantage.

When you go to the store to purchase one you want to try and find one that is ripe and ready to eat. The best way to do this is to knock on the outside of the rind. If you hear a hollow sound then melon is ready to eat, but if you hear solid thud put it back. The fruit is over ripe and you won't be getting very good flavor from it. Buy you water melon and eat it within the first few days of getting it home. Everything about it is healthy, and in addition, it won't leave you feeling over stuffed if you eat too much.

So in a few weeks, the weather gets warmer and summer is approaching. Don't forget about watermelons. Eat up and get the extra boost they will add to your healthy lifestyle.

Lipozene: Can you Really Lose Weight Fast With Lipozene?

11:24:00 AM
One of the more recent "stars" of the diet supplement world, Lipozene has been touted as a fast, easy route, to substantial weight loss. But does it really work? (For more information on this, go to: http://celopindietpill.blogspot.com/ )

The Lipozene diet pill is manufactured by Obesity Research Institute. You may have heard of them - they previously marketed similar products under the names Fiberslim and Propolene.

The central ingredient in Lipozene, is a substance called glucomannan. And this is the same substance that was used in Obesity Research Institute's prior diet products. So first, you need to take a good look at what exactly is glucomannan.

Without getting too technical, (I don't want to put you to sleep with a bunch of terminology from my Chemistry lab manuals!), glucomannan is basically a fiber supplement, derived from a plant. It is a substance that your body cannot absorb, so it just passes through your system, while providing fiber to help move everything else through. (Trying hard, not to get disgusting here!)

Now, there are clinical studies which confirm that glucomannan lowers blood-fat levels, and levels of the "bad" cholesterol (LDL). There is also some confirmation that consuming glucomannan with water before a meal, will give you a full feeling (the idea being that you will then eat less).

But before you run to your computer, to order a year's supply of Lipozene, I'm going to give you the honest truth. There are very serious problems with this product!

Yes I realize, you may have heard lots of stories about successful weight loss using Lipozene - from people trying to sell it to you! Well, fortunately for you, I refuse to sell people something that I wouldn't use myself. So I am going to reveal to you, the whole true story, about Lipozene and weight loss.

First, you need to clearly understand the problems:

#1: Diet pills are still drugs. And ALL drugs cause associated side effects. And sometimes, these side effects can even be dangerous.

#2: Glucomannan is a fiber product. And all fiber products can cause certain vitamins and minerals to bind with them - thus preventing your body from using those essential vitamins and minerals. Thus, it is advisable to take a quality multi-vitamin supplement, if you decide to use this type of diet pill.

#3: Since Lipozene is essentially a fiber product, this brings up the question: Why not just buy one of the commonly available fiber supplements, at a cost that is far less than Lipozene?

#4: There are many claims of success floating around the Internet, purportedly from Lipozene users. However, even these people state that they were following nutritional diet plans, and engaging in regular exercise, while on Lipozene. This means that we have no way of knowing whether they would have succeeded equally, merely by using a diet plan and exercise alone.

None of the problems above, however, addresses the most serious concern with Lipozene: Consumer Fraud.

The company that makes the product (Obesity Research Institute), has been cited numerous times for billing customers under false pretenses, and for refusing to provide refunds under conditions where a refund was promised. Furthermore, the Federal Trade Commission has charged the company with making "false and unsubstantiated claims" in the past. As a result, the company has been forced to pay $1.5 million in "customer redress"!

So as we can see, rather than living up to its promises of "easy weight loss", Lipozene comes with a list of concerns, and even questionable results. Plus, it is sold by a company with a history of criminal actions! Fortunately for you, there are other alternatives to Lipozene, which WILL help you to lose weight quickly.

Why You Should Drink Warm Lemon Water in the Morning.

6:20:00 AM
Instead of getting a cup of coffee, why not replace it with a warm water lemon drink!? Below are the good factors to consider.

1. Boosts your immune system: Lemons are high in vitamin C, which is great for fighting colds. They’re high in potassium, which stimulates brain and nerve function. Potassium also helps control blood pressure.

2. Balances pH: Drink lemon water everyday and you’ll reduce your body’s overall acidity. Lemon is one of the most alkaline foods around. Yes, lemon has citric acid but it does not create acidity in the body once metabolized.

3. Helps with weight loss: Lemons are high in pectin fiber, which helps fight hunger cravings. It also has been shown that people who maintain a more alkaline diet lose weight faster.

4. Aids digestion: Lemon juice helps flush out unwanted materials. It encourages the liver to produce bile which is an acid that required for digestion. Efficient digestion reduces heartburn and constipation.

5. Is a diuretic: Lemons increase the rate of urination in the body, which helps purify it. Toxins are, therefore, released at a faster rate which helps keep your urinary tract healthy.

6. Clears skin: The vitamin C component helps decrease wrinkles and blemishes. Lemon water purges toxins from the blood which helps keep skin clear as well. It can actually be applied directly to scars to help reduce their appearance.

7. Freshens breath: Not only this, but it can help relieve tooth pain and gingivitis. The citric acid can erode tooth enamel, so you should monitor this.

8. Relieves respiratory problems: Warm lemon water helps get rid of chest infections and halt those pesky coughs. It’s thought to be helpful to people with asthma and allergies too.

9. Keeps you zen: Vitamin C is one of the first things depleted when you subject your mind and body to stress. As mentioned previously, lemons are chock full of vitamin C.

10. Helps kick the coffee habit: After taking a glass of warm lemon water, most people suggests of less craving for coffee in the morning.

Why it has to be warm water not cold? Cold water likely provides a shock or stress factor to the body. It takes energy for your body to process cold water.

The recipe is really simple - a cup of warm water (not hot) and the juice from half of a lemon.

Reversing Autism and ADD

8:03:00 PM
Having a child born with an abnormality is every parent's worse fear - but what if you knew that problems such as autism, ADD, ADHD and other disorders were actually caused by a breakdown in a biochemical process and could be reversed.
Some Background Information
Several years ago health researchers led by Dr Paula Bickle, made a breakthrough when they found that youngsters with autism all had immune problems, high levels of toxicity and alcohol in their bodies and were lacking in most of the amino acids - especially taurine; they also lacked a number of important vitamins (particularly vitamin B6, B12 and folic acid) and many minerals - particularly magnesium, copper and zinc. These nutrients are essential for the necessary biological reactions (which convert methionine to taurine) which eliminate toxins and, very importantly break down sugar.
It is this sensitivity to sugar (along with a number of other toxins) and toxic build up that leads to hyperactivity and behavioral problems including madness. Another typical sign is the presence of dark circles under the eyes - indicating an allergic reaction.
Remarkably the researchers were able to reverse 14 of the 16 cases of autism through changes to their diet - which involved increasing their protein, fresh fruit and vegetable intake, eliminating sugar and through supplementation with essential nutrients.
This same treatment process can be applied to ADHD and ADD - a milder form of the same problem. Here's a summary of some natural and nutritonal treatments tha can be applied to ADD, ADHD and Autism.
Diet
  • Total elimination of sugar - this is for the whole family and not the child - you need to set an example; this includes all forms of refined sugar and processed or simple carbohydrates.
  • Eliminate or significantly reduce dairy and grain - this is a source of allergies that the child will be very sensitive to - use soy as an alternate source of food.
  • Increase the intake of protein to replace the missing amino acids.

Nutritional Supplements
Supplements can help by providing the necessary nutrients to make the biochemical reactions start to work again; they are also needed to repair the damage caused by this toxic build up and to help children absorb nutrients.
Supplements include:
  • Plant derived colloidal minerals - these are over 98% absorbable and provide all of the minerals required for normal functioning.
  • Multi-vitamin / Amino acid formula in liquid or tablet form - vitamins and protein are required for correct metabolism, to replace the amino acid deficiency and to rebuild the body.
  • Digestive enzymes to assist the body in digesting protein; the damage caused by sugar and other toxins will lead to very poor absorption of food.
  • Antioxidants are required to reverse the affects of toxic damage caused to the body by the poor metabolism of sugar.
  • A chromium/vanadium supplement will assist in helping to maintain healthy blood sugar levels.

Drugging Our Youth
There are many other diseases and health challenges that affect children but we focused on these particular issues because they have such devastating affects on family and school life. These diseases can be treated or at least controlled and improved and it doesn't involve getting our children addicted to DRUGS.
Drugs such as Ritalin and Prozac only subdue the child while the problem goes unchecked. They result in drug dependency and significant side effects such as a worsening of the condition when the child is off the drug, drooling, drowsiness and explosive and violent emotions. There have also been no long term studies into the health risks associated with putting young children onto a dangerous drug.
Summary
  1. Childhood diseases such as autism, ADD and ADHD result from a biochemical malfunction that results in a toxic build up in the child and their inability to metabolize sugar.
  2. Diet and lifestyle changes require the total elimination of sugar and increase in protein and fresh fruit and vegetables.
  3. Natural treatments involve supplementing with plant derived colloidal minerals, a multivitamin/amino acid, antioxidants and digestive enzymes. These will repair the damage, get the body functioning properly and ensure that the child is receiving good nutrition.

Studies have indicated that cayenne pepper (also known as chili pepper, red pepper, or paprika) has the ability to boost your metabolism to burn off fat. It is also proven that cayenne pepper can also help in reducing your appetite. It is recommended to get about 20-30 grams a day for maximum benefits.
4. Ginseng: A powerful substance that can increase energy, boost your metabolism, increase strength, and increase endurance. This substance is highly recommended for people who are overweight and suffer from excessive water weight. Ginseng can also be used as a remedy for several other health conditions such as high blood pressure and so much more.
Add those spices to your current health foods and experience an extra boost in how quickly you can lose belly fat, lose weight, and improve your complete overall health!
I wish you the best of success in getting yourself in better health! Good Luck!

7 Homemade Detox Drinks for Weight Loss

1:19:00 PM
These homemade detox drinks for weight loss are a natural way to melt the fat fast. Detoxification removes toxins and helps you reach your weight loss goals in a relatively short period of time. So naturally it's a good idea to detox your body on a regular basis.
It's important to note, if you plan on drinking only detoxification drinks for more than a few days, make sure your current health status allows you to change from your normal diet to a detox diet. Before doing any kind of long-term or drastic detox you should consult with a doctor.
With that said, here are 7 homemade detox drinks to help you lose weight:
  1. Tea: Tea is a natural detox drink that expels toxins from your system. Dandelion tea, green tea, peppermint tea, and ginger tea are especially effective in supporting weight loss. Drink 3-5 cups of tea daily to support your weight loss efforts.
  2. Cranberry Juice: Cranberry juice enhances the body's metabolism, which is essential to converting fats into energy instead of excess weight. Along with eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, drinking cranberry juice is a very effective way to lose weight. Plus, this detox drink also helps clear nicotine and alcohol from your system in just about four days. Drink at least 32 ounces of 100% natural organic cranberry juice every day.
  3. Cabbage Juice: Cabbage is very effective for detoxifying your liver. And because your liver is responsible for the detoxification of your body, it is an essential part of your detox and weight loss plan. If you have a juicer, juice up some cabbage, carrots and pears for a deliciously refreshing detox drink.
  4. Cabbage Broth: For a satisfying hot drink, simmer a head of cabbage along with carrots, onions and a pinch of salt, then strain and drink. You can also add other vegetables to pack more nutrients into this hot detox drink, which is very effective for detoxifying your liver.
  5. Cucumber and Lemon: This might seem like a surprising combination, but the effects of these two ingredients was tested by professional nutritionists and found to be a very effective detox and weight loss drink. All you have to do is use a blender to mix 1 cucumber sliced into tiny pieces and the juice half a lemon. Drink at least 2 times per day. This detox drink boosts your metabolism, which is essential for losing weight quickly, and you'll notice how it loads you with energy.
  6. Master Cleanse Lemonade: This is probably the most popular detox drink for weight loss in the industry. It was made famous by celebrities like Angelina Jolie and Beyoncé Knowles because it is an extremely effective detox drink for weight loss and for improving your skin complexion. This is a perfect homemade detox drink to lose weight fast. Mix lemon juice, organic maple syrup and a dash of cayenne pepper into a 10 oz. glass of water. Sip on this drink all day for best results.
  7. Salt Water Cleanse: At the start of your detox, you might want to do a salt water detox to cleanse your digestive system and prepare your body for weight loss. Do this on a day when you have plenty of time to stay home near the bathroom as it will run through your body very quickly. Mix 1 to 2 tablespoons of natural sea salt into one quart of lukewarm water. Do not use table salt; it will not have the same effect. Stir or shake until the salt is dissolved. Drink and then relax. Most people report a bowel movement within 30 minutes to two hours and several more may follow. Once you have cleansed your system, restore it by eating yogurt to replenish the beneficial bacteria in your digestive tract, drink juice, and eat fresh, soft-cooked and steamed fruits and vegetables.
In addition to these detox drinks, make sure to eat lots of veggies, fruits and whole grain foods that fill you up and give you the best chance for quickly losing weight.

Low Cholesterol Recipes

1:11:00 PM
First of all you can begin by taking a favorite dish and modifying the standard recipe into a low fat and low cholesterol version. Cholesterol should be avoided or markedly reduced. Avoid animal-based foods such as egg yolk, beef and pork, poultry and dairy products.
Before going into specific low cholesterol recipes, do follow the advice below for converting normal recipes into low cholesterol recipes.
LOW CHOLESTEROL RECIPES & MEATS
Even lean meat has fat in it. Here are some ways to reduce the saturated fat in meat and the possibility of making with it low cholesterol recipes:
Broil rather than pan-fry meats such as hamburger, lamb chops, pork chops and steak.
Use a rack to drain off fat when broiling, roasting or baking. Instead of basting with drippings, keep meat moist with wine, fruit juices or an acceptable oil-based marinade.
Cook a day ahead of time. Stews, boiled meat, soup stock or other dishes in which fat cooks into the liquid can be refrigerated. Then the hardened fat can be removed from the top.
Make gravies after the fat has hardened and can be removed from the liquid.
When a recipe calls for browning the meat first, try browning it under the broiler instead of in a pan.
LOW CHOLESTEROL RECIPES & VEGETABLES
With vegetables you can naturally make low cholesterol recipes, since vegetables hardly havy any cholesterol. Add herbs and spices to make vegetables even tastier. For example, these combinations add new and subtle flavors:
Rosemary with peas, cauliflower and squash
Oregano with zucchini
Dill with green beans
Marjoram with Brussels sprouts,
carrots and spinach
Basil with tomatoes.
Start with a small quantity (1/8 to 1/2 teaspoon to a package of frozen vegetables), then let your own and your family's taste be your guide. Chopped parsley and chives, sprinkled on just before serving, also enhance the flavor of many vegetables.
Try cooking vegetables in a tiny bit of vegetable oil, adding a little water during cooking if needed, or use a vegetable oil spray. Only 1 to 2 teaspoons of oil is enough for a package of frozen vegetables that serves four. Place in a skillet with tight cover, season, and cook over a very low heat until vegetables are done.
LOW CHOLESTEROL RECIPES & SODIUM
Most of us eat much more sodium than we need. In some people, this can lead to high blood pressure, which increases the risk of stroke, heart disease and kidney disease. The American Heart Association eating plan limits sodium intake to 2,400 milligrams per day. That's about a teaspoon of salt. People with high blood pressure may need stricter limits on sodium.
Most of the sodium in our diets is added either during processing, while preparing food or at the table. To help you reduce sodium in your diet:
Use less salt or no salt at the table and in cooking.
Use herbs and spices in place of salt.
Limit your intake of foods high in added sodium, such as:
Canned and dried soups
Canned vegetables
Ketchup and mustard
Salty snack foods
Olives and pickles
Luncheon meats and cold cuts
Bacon and other cured meats
Cheeses
Restaurant and carry-out foods (such as French fries, onion rings, hamburgers)
MODIFYING RECIPES INTO LOW CHOLESTEROL RECIPES
To control the amount and kind of fat, saturated fat and dietary cholesterol you eat:
Select lean cuts of meat and trim off all visible fat before cooking.
Serve moderate portions, and try "low-meat" dishes featuring pasta, rice, beans and/or vegetables.
Use cooking methods that require little or no fat? boil, broil, bake, roast, poach, steam, saute, stir-fry or microwave.
Replace saturated fats with healthier substitutes. For example, when your own recipe calls for butter, lard, bacon, bacon fat or chicken fat, use margarine that contains no more than 2 grams of saturated fat per 1 tablespoon, or unsaturated vegetable oil.

The Top 10 Ways to Improve Your Diet, Your Health & Your Life!

11:27:00 AM
Because I believe diet and exercise are so important, I'm often frustrated with the recommendations I receive. Nutrition and natural health ideas are often so negative (don't eat this, watch out for that) or so rigorous (be sure to eat some raw, natural, organically grown vegetable I've never heard of) or so complicated, I end up ignoring them. And yet, I know diet is critical to my health and well-being, so I made up my own rules. My objective was simplicity, so all of you with greater will-power and more discipline, cut me some slack, OK? For the rest of us, I hope you find them useful.
1. Eat less. I used to eat until I was full, and then snack as a hobby. And, sometimes I still do. But, more and more, I decide when I've eaten enough, leave room for a treat later, and simply choose to eat a little less. I think it helps.
2. Drink more water. I used to try to drink 8 glasses a day, but I usually ended up either losing count...or just going to the bathroom a lot. Now, on my way to the table I stop by the sink and grab a glass of water. I figure that's more water than most people drink, it probably helps me eat less (see Rule #1), and sometimes it reminds me to drink even more. Close enough.
3. Eat more fruit. Benjamin Franklin said, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." I just know apples, a banana, some grapes or something "exotic" like a mango or a kiwi tastes good, and it's the fastest, most portable and convenient food I've found. A handful of those little baby carrots beats a sandwich by a good 90 seconds!
4. Eat your vegetables. Yeah, still listening to my mother. But on the positive side, they're so easy! No sauces, no mixing or blending or nothing! Raw, steamed or microwaved, they're great for adding color to a meal (greens, yellows, and beans in all sorts of colors). I know fresh and organically grown is best, and sometimes I buy them that way....
5. Eat more rice and baked potatoes. I score points with my doctor, my "significant other" and again, it's about the easiest cooking I've figured out.
6. Stretch when you feel like it. I used to follow a routine that recommended stretching and yoga for about 30 minutes every morning. Wonderful stuff! Very healthy. And someday I'm going to give it another try! For now, every morning, and several times during the day, I stand up and try to reach the ceiling. I bend, twist, shake my shoulders, breath deep, whatever seems to feel good at the moment. Then I get back to work.
7. Avoid exercise and elevators. OK, I believe jogging and sweating and lifting weights are good for me. And I do some of it. But I also find it useful to walk around the block to get the mail (the box is across the street) or take the stairs instead of the elevator. I walk the dog, push the lawnmower and play tennis and golf with my friends. That way I figure I'm exercising and leaving the gyms open for the rest of you.
8. Spend time with friends. Talking, sharing dreams, giving and receiving support, solving life's great mysteries and debating politics or religion with a friend does wonders for the soul. And, hugs are good. And if you have a life-partner, I find talking regularly seems to avoid a number of other problems, as well!
9. Laugh every day. Tell a joke, wrestle with your dog or play with the kids next door, but have some fun! Life's short.
10. Plan for dessert! At the end of the day, I really like something special to top it all off. So, I plan for a bite of chocolate or a cup of low-fat pudding or yogurt or a handful of fresh grapes. It sure seems to beat restlessly searching the cupboards and refrigerator for "something" and ending up with a big bowl of ice cream!
Finally, a few words of experience. It's OK to "slip" once in a while. At least it better be OK...I seem to do it periodically. Just get up again tomorrow, make the rules simpler, more fun or more appropriate for your situation and get right back on! I don't think the objective is perfection -- there's no point in having a heart attack getting all stressed out about the rules! Just go have some fun!

Best Foods to Eat While You Are Pregnant

9:55:00 AM
No matter how healthy your diet may be, you might have to change it a little while you are pregnant. Some foods you may want to eliminate altogether, while others, you will want to increase in your daily menu. In our modern research, we try to figure out more about health, food, and nutrition during pregnancy. In order to do this, we need to learn more about the very foods that we eat and how they affect our bodies.
For example, you might ask what impact vegetarian diets, red meats, strong cheeses, organic foods or others may have on how your baby grows during the nine months of pregnancy.
Foods You Want to Eat
During your first trimester, foods that have a lot of protein, are the best foods that you can choose to eat. By consuming more protein you will be giving your baby the main building block of all cells. Protein is especially critical, since your tiny unborn child develops their major organs in these 3 months.
Vegetarians
Any vegetarian diet should be filled with foods that contain protein for cellular growth and development. You may be surprised at the variety of vegetarian protein that is really available. Beans with rice very high in protein and come a colorful variety.
Meat Eaters
For non-vegetarians, turkey, beef, tuna, and finally chicken have a high level of protein per ounce ranked from most to least. If you are on a vegetarian diet, beans and rice are excellent protein sources when combined. If money is tight, two eggs or peanut butter are other options.
For a fast, handy snack, vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike, can have protein by grabbing a small handful of natural almonds with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Almonds are packed with vitamins and minerals that help you ensure that your baby gets exactly what nutrition it needs the most.
Organic Foods
Organic foods also need to be carefully selected, since they may be prone to have more natural residues. However, if they are grown locally, these foods may be better for your body since it is more used to the immediate environment. Be sure to check where and how they are grown, such as being a hybrid of two or more strains of foods.
Foods You Want to Avoid
There are certain types of fish and cheese, that may actually be bad to eat while pregnant. These are foods that you may want to check out, before heading to your favorite seafood restaurant or fixing yourself a sandwich. Check with your medical provider before munching on raw sushi, oyster, muscles, octopus, and similar raw fish.
Cheese
In addition, some strong cheeses may carry bacteria that could hurt your baby. Blue cheese, feta, wine cheese, Manchego sheep milk cheese, and others that have a potent aroma often require getting used to for adults, let alone a tiny fetus. You will most likely want to take these foods off your menu, at least while you are pregnant.
Sugar
Foods high in sugar take your body on an energy roller coaster, stressing both you and your unborn child. Pregnancy takes an enormous amount of energy already and may suffer by extreme energy swings. If you must have something sweet, try foods such as applesauce, grapes, or other raw fruit. Use spices to add flavor to fruit to make it have more taste. Do avoid honey as it has a bacteria that can hurt small children.
Healthy Food Makes A Long Term Difference
Through all stages of your life, eating the proper foods makes a difference to your overall health. But, during pregnancy it is absolutely critical to the normal growth of your baby. Making a list of the right and wrong foods to eat can help you and your baby stay on a nutritious track.
By making a careful selection for your menu, you help to ensure not just a safe nine months of pregnancy, but a safe start so your baby can grow those first teeth and strong legs to walk on.

Why You Should Drink Warm Lemon Water in the Morning.

11:02:00 AM

How Yoga Will Promote Weight Loss

9:23:00 AM
If you are battling with weight gain or obesity due to unhealthy eating habits or lack of sufficient exercise, then yoga should be of interest to you. It is possible to lose weight as well as to relax by engaging in yoga. Yoga will strengthen your core, tone you up and increase your flexibility with the various poses, techniques and diets. Here is a look at a plethora of ways in which yoga can lead to weight loss.
Yogic poses (asanas)
These poses are geared towards fitting your health needs and age. A yoga instructor keeps in mind your health issues before prescribing certain yogic poses that may help you lose weight effectively. These asanas include sun salutation, shoulder stand, fish, wheel and bird poses, triangle poses among others. In addition, these poses help to check weight gain due to hormonal imbalance as well as allow the endocrine glands to run smoothly. The immune system is strengthened and indigestion and allergies are reduced by these yoga poses.
Yogic techniques
The Prana Shakti is a very effective and ancient method of balancing one's weight. This technique is void of physical movements but deals with the invocation of the life force called Prana through breath. The Prana converts into heat that burns fat and consequently weight loss. Mastering this technique takes only a few weeks of practice.
Yogic diets
Postures, poses and techniques work hand in hand with the yogic diets to lose weight effectively. Healthy eating habits, detoxifying frequently and avoiding junk and sugary foods, while eating a balanced yogic diet with lots of water intake are a must if you want to lose weight. Yoga alters your taste of food naturally, without deprivation or any effort. Yoga helps you to be in touch with your body and hence get to refrain from energy draining foods or sugars. Yoga will help you eat in a healthy manner leading to weight loss and consequently better health.
Positive mental attitude
Accepting that you have weight issues that need attention is the first step to the weight loss journey. Changing your attitude towards exercise and healthy diets in relation to your desired weight is of importance. Yoga allows for holistic thinking that integrates the whole person. It requires the presence of the body, mind, spirit and heart to have a unified way of living and a new positive attitude. This naturally controls your emotional, physical and spiritual needs and hence you are able to say no to overfeeding, laziness and poor feeding habits without strain and be on the path of losing weight.
Yoga motions
First timers who intend to lose weight should partake yoga but at small steps. Start small and grow with practice until you can withstand intense activities or poses. The intensity and aggressiveness of the superior yoga movements, act as workouts that lead to weight loss but should be carried out with care and under an instructor.
Certainly, yoga is one of the best ways to lose weight smartly and as a long term measure. You do not have to force your body to accept certain crash diets or hectic exercises but in the relaxing and meditative poses, techniques, diets, motions, and attitude change, weight loss is achievable.

Sugar Lovers Beware

11:43:00 AM
It would be fair to assume that almost everyone on the planet loves sugar and sweet foods. Processed sugar is in many products and is a key ingredient for baking. It seems that everyone has a sweet tooth for some sugar food in one way or another. Most people know to limit their intake of processed sugar, however, what most people don't know is that sugar is one of the worst ingredients to put into your body. The chemical reaction of sugar in the body acts as a poison. Studies show that sugar has drug like effects in the body.
Processed sugar has many harmful effects throughout the body and can cause major imbalances in the organ systems. You could say that sugar tends to throw off the homeostatic balance of the whole body by increasing the production of adrenaline by many times. In essence, sugar stimulates the nervous system by inducing a flight or fight response.
This is obviously not a healthy process. This intense reaction of the body increases the production of cortisone, which suppresses immune function and can lead to other health disorders.
The daily intake of sugar leads to many other imbalances and malfunctioning of the bodily processes. High sugar consumption leads to an overly acidic body and in turn will cause the body to strip nutrients from its reserves to counterbalance this effect. This can eventually cause the body to take calcium from the bones and teeth since calcium is the primary mineral used to neutralize high acid in the cells. Osteoporosis and arthritic conditions can result from this continued process.
Sugar and its Link to Weight Gain
Excess sugar consumption will eventually effect every organ in the body. Primarily, sugar is stored in the liver as glucose. Since the liver's capacity to store sugar in this form is limited, the liver will start to expand almost like a balloon with continued daily sugar intake. When the livers' capacity has been filled, the excess glycogen (glucose) is returned to the blood in the form of fatty acids (fat). The fatty acid compounds are then taken to various parts of the body and are stored as fat deposits in the buttocks, belly, breasts and hips since these are the most inactive body parts.
The consumption of excess processed (refined) carbohydrates has the same effect on the body. Eating foods with refined white flours and other enriched products can cause the same physiological effects. Consuming excess pasta, rice, chips, pretzels, and other high processed carbohydrates can lead to fat deposits on the body.
Many people do not understand how eating excess pasta or rice can cause weight gain since these foods has very minute quantities of fat and calories in them. The secret is...it is not that important how much fat or calories a food has. The real key is what biological effect does a food have in the body.
When the inactive body parts have become filled with fat then eventually the excess fatty acid deposits will become stored around major organ systems such as the heart and kidneys. This leads to the degeneration of these organs and in turn will cause poor health. This can result in poor immune response, poor circulation, high blood pressure, and can even impact brain functioning.
A False Energy High
Too much sugar intake gives one a false sense of energy. When you eat a sweet food, your energy will go up, however, it only feels that your energy is going up. In fact, this false energy is really your body being stimulated via the flight or fight response that I spoke of earlier. After this reaction has worn off, your energy levels will come crashing down as most people experience every day after they have eaten a high sugar food.
Most children that have ADD can completely heal themselves just by eliminating processed sugars in their diets. Children eat way too many processed sugars. The behaviors and bodily responses that these children feel are the flight or fight responses of their nervous systems. All forms of processed sugars such as nutra sweet, cane juice, corn syrup, brown sugar, splenda, powdered sugar and others have the same effect on the body. The chemical structures of these compounds are very harmful to the body and should not be consumed on a frequent basis.
Fruit sugars are very healthy for you. The monosaccharides (simple sugars) in these natural foods are in a structure that are beneficial to your cells. Fruit sugar has a much different effect on your body than does processed sugar. Fruit sugars nourish and energize the body naturally. This is true energy as compared to the false energy one gets from processed sugars. Your cells require the simple sugars in fruits consistently since they serve to fuel the body with the best substances. Make sure you consistently eat many fruits a day. I would recommend eating 4 to 5 pieces of different fruits a day for better health.
The True Bitterness of nutra sweet & sucralose (splenda tm)
What you are about to discover is information that has been known for quite some time by various health organizations. Please take this information seriously because there are agendas in place to hide this truth and to use it against you.
Aspartame (nutra sweet) is actually worse to consume than sugar. This technical name includes the following brands of sweeteners- (equal, nutra sweet, spoonful and equal measure).
Be advised that these compounds are very powerful and can cause severe biological effects in your body. To say that they are toxic is an understatement. The manufacturer of these compounds knows of the dangers in consuming regular amounts of aspartame substances. As I have already said there is an agenda for putting these compounds into various products.
If you want to know the true agenda then research it for yourself. I am not one who attempts to prove anything to anyone. I challenge you to do your own research and see if you can prove what I am saying wrong. In trying to prove me wrong, you will prove me right.
The Breakdown of Aspartame
Aspartame is a volatile substance, meaning that it breaks down very readily under normal storing conditions. Primarily, all aspartame compounds break down into methanol (alcohol), which is a known neurotoxin. The methanol in time then will break down into formaldehyde that is a highly reactive chemical that is damaging to the cells and genetics of the body.
This process can cause a number of neurodegenerative diseases such as alzheimers, lupus, multiple sclerosis (MS), and parkinson's disease. The methyl alcohol that forms from aspartame is thousands of times more potent than the alcohol found in a normal alcoholic beverage.
Reactions to aspartame products include the following: headaches, nausea, depression, fatigue, heart palpitations, slurred speech, breathing difficulties, memory loss, seizures and even death. Consuming high amounts of aspartame can also increase your cravings for carbohydrates. I explained earlier that consuming high amounts of empty carbohydrates (refined flours, pasta, rice, chips) will lead to weight gain.
Primarily, the effects of aspartame chemicals in the body seem to alter key hormones thus creating imbalances in neurotransmitters and blocking other hormone precursors.
So, why haven't you heard about these dangers before now? Let's see...the diet industry is a trillion dollar market to many organizations. Obviously, they don't want this secret information to get out to public ears if you know what I mean.
Aspartame & Children
Children love to consume sweets on a daily basis. Many of the food products that these children are consuming have aspartame sweeteners in them. I would advise all parents to get their kids off of aspartame food items. These foods are not healthy for them. There are plenty of healthy alternatives for any of the items that they enjoy.
Email me and I will give you loads of information. Many kids are diagnosed with ADD and other mood disorders. Many of these conditions are being classified as hyper, behavioral problems and others when in fact these children are being affected by the foods they eat. Look at a normal child's food intake for an average day and you will find that they eat way too much sugar and items with aspartame compounds and other chemicals in them.
This daily consumption of these sweeteners has a harmful effect on their nervous system and therefore becomes expressed as mood disorders and behavioral problems. Take these kids off sugar and these sweeteners and watch them improve.
Pregnant Mothers & Aspartame
If you or anyone you know is pregnant then I would say just stay away from these dangerous sweeteners forever. Make sure you read labels and make it a conscious intent to have the whole family keep clean of these products. It will help your whole family out I assure you.
If you are pregnant and consume aspartame foods you will only be hurting the development of the child. Doing so can cause neurological imbalances and other cellular damage. You are also hurting yourself. It is not worth the price just to have your diet soda. Please educate yourself more on this topic for it can save your health and the baby's health.
Products to Stay Away From
If you drink diet soda then are you most likely consuming aspartame. Most diet sodas and many other beverages are sweetened with one of the aspartame sugar substitutes. STAY AWAY FROM ALL PRODUCTS THAT CONTAIN THE VARIOUS FORMS OF ASPARTAME! These include aspartame, nutra sweet, splenda, spoonful, equal. Read your labels and throw away all items that have these compounds in them. Take responsibility for your diet. If you choose to continue to consume aspartame after reading this chapter well then you are the one to pay the consequences.
What Will I Use To Sweeten My Drinks & My Food
Relax! I know you enjoy sugar and do not want to give up great tasting foods and beverages. You don't have to. There are some great natural sugar alternatives that I feel taste better than sugar and the other toxic substances mentioned earlier.
To sweeten your drinks you can use Stevia. Stevia is a natural herb that is actually hundreds of times sweeter than regular sugar. It has no fat, carbohydrates or calories and is perfectly suitable for people with diabetes, low carb diets and people with candida and other parasitic conditions. Stevia does not cause spikes in blood sugar and has a nourishing effect on the body. It has been used for centuries among various cultures.
You can get stevia at any health food store in the dietary supplement section. There are 2 products: 1 is a liquid concentrate- I recommend this for sweetening beverages like teas and shakes. The other is a ground up version and is in powder form. I recommend this for foods like cereal or oatmeal.
Agave syrup is an awesome food product. You will love this sweetener guaranteed. It is a compound similar to honey only that it comes from a cactus plant in the desert. I believe that it tastes better than honey and can used on pancakes, cookies and to sweeten baked goods. Try it and see! You can find this at most health food stores. If they don't have it then ask them to carry it.
Rice syrup is also a good sugar alternative. It can be used in various ways and has a pleasant taste.
Date Paste is very sweet and can be added to baked goods and pancakes, waffles and cookies.
Fruit Juice Concentrates can be used to sweeten baked foods as well.
Barley Malt Syrup is another great alternative.
Honey - old time favorite for many, can be used also in various ways from sweetening drinks to sweetening baked goods. Use only organic varieties.

Tips to Keep Your Skin in Tip-Top Shape

9:27:00 AM
For ever since I can remember phrases such as, "You are what you eat" and, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away", are freely used in everyday speech. So, you can already guess which direction this article is heading. The subject on healthy eating is nothing new, nor is the effect of nutrients and vitamins on your skin's appearance. Over time, nutritionists introduce new must-eat vitamin sources and new diets to the table. So much so that sometimes we forget the ultimate basics. Let's take a look at those basics of healthy eating for great skin:
First and foremost: water. Yes, plain old H2O. You can never get enough water in your system. Up to 60% of our human bodies are made up of water. 70% of our brains are made up of water and our lungs at a startling 90%. When we break it down into more scientific terms, we're talking cells. Every inch of our bodies are made up of cells which are largely made of water. A healthy cell is like a rubber ball full of water, an unhealthy cell is one that is like a half-filled rubber ball. Now imagine that millions of these rubber balls are what make up the skin on your face. Quite obviously, the more liquid your skin cells retain, the better your skin's health and the better you look. So drink up; lots and lots of water.
Next is none other than fibers. If you want great skin, never skip your greens. Fiber isn't just great for your skin but work wonders on your digestive system and helps prevent blood cholesterol and heart problems as well. This is where the expression, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" comes in. Apples, one of the simplest fruits known to man is high in fiber. Highly recommend you to eat it skin and all. As for other food high in fiber to include in your healthy-skin diet besides your green vegetables: whole grains, all sorts of beans and legumes and flax seeds.
Another source of fiber with the added benefit of vitamin C is oranges. Yet again, another of the simpler fruits known to men. Vitamin C work wonders for your skin. Rather than apply the vitamin on your face, you might as well eat oranges for the added benefits.
Now besides water, fiber and vitamin c, contrary to beliefs about its negative impact on health, are 'oils'. Don't skip your 'oils' if you want bouncy, healthy looking skin. Of course, stick to the good ones such as fish oil and those from walnuts and flax seeds.
Finally, something you should avoid eating too much of is sugar. Sugar is in fact one of the primary reasons for premature signs of aging. How so? Glycation. If you're new to this term, here's a quick explanation: the more sugar (glucose) that runs in your bloodstream, the higher chance those glucose molecules would stick to a protein molecule and damage it in the process. The new combined molecule from the glycation process damages skin collagen and everything else related to elasticity. The result: wrinkles, crow feet and loose sagging skin.
So to wrap it up, for healthy and young-looking skin: drink lots of water, eat lots of fiber, make sure you get enough vitamin C and healthy oils, plus really limit your intake of sugar and its counterparts.
