Skin Care Tips For Busy Women - 7 Simple Facial Exercises For Glowing Skin

10:15:00 AM
Have you looked in the mirror recently? What do you see? Do you see bright, naturally glowing skin or tired looking skin?
Your face works very hard. It is your reflection to the world.
You may use natural skin care products and have a daily cleansing system, however, when was the last time you consciously exercised your face?
Strip away your make-up and cleansing routine you are left with your bare skin. How does that look?
In this post I offer you seven simple facial exercises to refresh, rejuvenate and energise your facial skin.
Staring At A Computer Screen For Too Long Makes Your Eyes Tired
Like the rest of your body, stress and tension are stored in your face, for example, if you spend a lot of time staring at a computer screen, chances are your eyes will become sore and tired; you may without realising start to clench your jaw and grind your teeth; hunch your shoulders or strain your neck muscles. The build up of tension is stored in your body and affects your mobility and stiffens your body.
Seven Simple Facial Exercises For Glowing Skin
The following are a few simple facial exercises that will help you to relax tense tired facial muscles, release stress and improve circulation. Your face will feel energised, alive and tingly.
These simple facial exercises can be done sitting comfortably on a chair.
1. Sitting comfortably breathe in and as you breathe out gently allow your shoulders to relax. Continue to focus on your breathe and allow your face to be soft, relax your jaw and gently close your eyes. Spend a few moments just consciously focusing on relaxing your facial muscles, feel the tension and stress melt away as you focus on your breath.
2. Pretend to chew gum. Chew for 1 - 3 minutes, making large chewing and smacking motions. The louder and noisier the better.
3. Scrunch your face real tight like a prune - pull your eye brows down, draw your cheeks in toward your nose, purse your lips. Hold for a count of five and release. Repeat 3 - 5 times.
4. Squeeze and pinch your cheeks to improve the circulation in your face.
5. Place your index and middle fingers of both hands in the middle of your forehead. Gently rub your forehead by making small circular movements with your fingers. Slowly, move your fingers to your temples and make small circles over the temples. Gradually work your fingers alongside your nostrils, then over to your jaw muscles. Spend a few moments, opening and closing your jaw as you massage your jaw and cheeks. Relax and repeat this sequence 3 - 5 times.
6. Take a long deep breath in and slowly breathe out. Scrunch your face up, like a dried prune. Open your eyes look upwards; open your mouth, stretch out your tongue and Roarrrrrr like a lion. Repeat until you feel powerful, calm and in control.
7. Close your eyes and take a few rounds of deep yogic breathing. Rub your palms together, very fast until they feel warm. Gently place your cupped hands over your closed eyes. Relax and breathe. Repeat.
Your face deserves to be treated well. Make it part of your daily skin care routine to slip in at least 2 or 3 of the above facial exercises. You will feel energised and best of all get a natural glow to your face.
Thank You

How to Disguise Stretch Marks on Bodybuilders

12:04:00 PM
When skin has been stretched beyond its elastic limits, a stretch mark will appear. This generally affects people that grow too quickly or lose or gain weight faster than their skin can adapt to the changes. These marks usually appear on the breast or chest, abdomen, upper arms, hips, thighs and back of the knees.

Generally, women are more susceptible to stretch marks. But, men can also develop them especially extreme athletes. For example, men that practice bodybuilding are especially likely to develop stretch marks.

They work on "bulking up", which causes their skins to stretch excessively in a short period of time. It is highly common for bodybuilders to develop stretch marks along their thighs and lower abdomen. For this reason, several bodybuilders are concerned about stretch marks and stretch mark treatments.

Ways of Treating Stretch Marks

Stretch mark removal is an unlikely solution for most bodybuilders because they don't have excess skin that can be removed. Surgical options are much more adequate for people who have lost a great deal of weight and have loose skin and stretch marks. Nevertheless, there are other treatment options for bodybuilders.
When stretch marks are new, it is possible to treat them with stretch marks creams and other stretch mark products, like rose hip seed oil. However, as they get older it may not be possible to eliminate them completely. Rose hip seed oil is very effective in dramatically reducing the appearance of stretch marks but not in eliminating them.

As a matter of fact, one of the best options for bodybuilders is to cover up their stretch marks. If you are okay with this solution then you should know that there are three basic ways of covering up these bothersome striations: clothing, makeup, and self tanners. Anyone can benefit from using these solutions.

Covering Up Stretch Marks

Clothing is probably the easiest and most hassle-free way of covering up your stretch marks. You can use jackets and long sleeve shirts to cover the stretch marks on your arms while the stretch marks on your abdomen can be covered up using a top or shirt. However, since bodybuilders compete they need other options that will help cover up stretch marks. In this case body makeup or self tanners can come in handy.

Body makeup is thick and more wear-proof than traditional foundation. When you have stretch marks in areas that are hard to cover or that you simply don't want to cover with clothing, this is an ideal option for you.

Another alternative for covering up stretch marks is spray on tans or self tanning lotions. If you decide to get a real tan, then you will only be making your stretch marks darker. But, self tanners will cover the skin evenly and help you avoid too much sun exposure.By:

Back Pain: Exercises To Do and Exercises To Avoid

7:18:00 AM
Probably if you are like most people with back pain the last thing you want to do is exercise. At one time bed rest was the prescribed treatment for back pain. But since the 90's physicians and therapists have recognized the importance of staying active as the best way to ease back pain and prevent a recurrence. After my back surgery the surgeon recommended that I immediately start exercising. The exercise he recommended was walking. As important as it is to exercise, it's vital that you do the right exercises. Here is a list of the exercises to avoid and the exercises to do to relieve your back pain and strengthen your muscles.
Exercises to Avoid:
First of all use common sense. Start slow and gradually increase as you body adapts to the exercises.
Avoid any activity that involves positions or movements that might cause further injury and pain. Activities like tennis, golf and baseball involve fast turns and movements that probably will cause problems for your back.
Yoga: Although some yoga positions can be part of your recovery plan, there are many positions that must be avoided.
Long Periods of Sitting: No, this is not an exercise, but it is something to avoid. If you do a lot of sitting make sure your chair is ergonomically designed to give you proper support. Do not sit more than an hour at a time without getting up walking around and stretching.
Exercise to Do:
First of all it is a good idea to use a trainer or therapist to show you proper technique. The right exercise for your back done with a flawed technique will injure you as surely as the wrong exercise.
The exercises you want to concentrate on are those that will strengthen the abdominal muscles, legs, back and buttocks.
Walking: Find a good supportive walking shoe and pick a level trail. Again start slow and gradually increase distance.
Swimming: If you have access to a pool swimming is one of the best exercises you can do because the water's bouncy takes the pressure off the back.
Pelvic Lifts and Abdominal Curls: These exercises are done flat on your back with knees bent.
Stretching: Like all exercises there are good stretches and bad stretches and like I stated earlier proper techniques is essential.
Remember it is important to begin moving and exercising as soon as possible. It may seemed that exercises right after suffering back pain is wrong, but studies have shown the effectiveness in mild exercise for an aching back. Strengthening your core though exercising can eliminate the pain of a bad back and prevent another injury. Using common sense and taking it easy can and will improve your back and in so doing improve over all sense of well being.

Dealing With Stomach Pain During Pregnancy

10:23:00 AM
Stomach pain is probably the most easily recognizable symptom of pregnancy. From the moment you first notice something is different, to the moment your baby is born, chances are, your stomach was causing you at least some measure of pain along the way. While it can be painful and uncomfortable, it's perfectly natural to experience pregnancy stomach pain. This pain can show itself in several ways, ranging from mild nausea to severe stomach cramping and diarrhea and just about everything in between.
Fortunately, because pregnancy stomach pain is so common, your doctor will probably have some good ideas on how to deal with your particular symptoms. Some might also be temporary or short-lived. The nausea and vomiting that accompanies morning sickness often goes away after the first trimester. And even if it doesn't, your doctor will probably know of some excellent remedies you can try to make it less difficult for you. You might try some cutting-edge prescription drugs, or you may find that a simple change in your diet does the trick.
Stomach cramping can make its appearance at any time during the pregnancy. It may very well be the thing that made you wonder if you were pregnant to begin with. You might have experienced some unusual cramping just days after conception, which can often be a tip-off that something has changed. If you find that your stomach is quite sensitive, you might have pregnancy stomach pain for the duration. You may find that cramping accompanies morning sickness. Very severe stomach cramping can be a red flag that something is not right, and you may be about to go into labor, even if it's not yet time.
Pregnancy stomach pain can also manifest itself because the stomach is being squeezed into a smaller space as the uterus expands with the fetus's growth. This pressure on you r stomach can cause pain, and is responsible for the more severe heartburn that many pregnant women face. Increased constipation is another common problem for pregnant women, and can also result in stomach cramping. The release of extra progesterone into your body can increase the likelihood of heartburn, and the need for the fetus to receive more nutrients results in digestive slowing, which can cause constipation.
Pregnant women may also find that they have a lot more gas, manifesting itself in flatulence and excess burping. Some of this can be remedied with some minor adjustments to behavior and diet.
While most of these problems are relatively common, don't hesitate to ask your doctor if you are worried, or if something really seems abnormal. Keep in mind that a pain that is v very severe and unfamiliar might very well be a warning of something serious, like a miscarriage, or premature labor. The key is to be aware of the changes in your body, and to do whatever you can to remain active and healthy. The stronger you are, the stronger your baby will be, and the easier the delivery will be.

Aerobics for Effective Weight Loss

5:39:00 AM
According to a US study conducted recently, aerobics is the best solution for losing weight as it burns the excess calories. This is why aerobics remains one of the most popular ways to lose weight ever. Aerobic exercises not only help lose weight but also have long term health benefits. Also, aerobics can be fun and really enjoyable.
There are various kinds of aerobic routines, ranging from the step aerobics routine in which a raised platform is used to perform various exercises to the water aerobics in which movements are done in chest high warm water. Aerobics also include active sports like swimming, basketball, tennis, soccer etc.
Are you thinking of losing weight? Do you want to shed those extra pounds?
Here's why you should go for aerobics:
  • Burning Calories and Losing Weight:
It is a known fact that aerobic or cardio exercises help you maintain your weight. The excess energy required to perform aerobic or cardiovascular exercises is obtained from the calories that you get from consuming food and beverages. As a result, your metabolic rate is increased and high amounts of calories are burnt. Losing weight without any medical procedure requires you to burn more calories than you can consume. Along with reducing body fat, aerobics also reduces blood pressure.
  • Aerobics Help You Overcome The Sudden Cravings For Eating
Another reason why aerobics is such popular and effective in reducing weight is that it helps you overcome the erratic hunger pangs. This happens due to the increase in your leptin level which suppresses your desire to eat a lot. Leptin is a protein that balances appetite and metabolism thus regulating energy intake and expenditure.
Here are some statistics that would make the picture clear. An hour long low-impact routine can burn up to 545 calories and a more vigorous one can burn from 511 to 763 calories. Brisk walking for an hour can burn around 414 calories whereas running can help you burn up to 1,472 calories.
However, it must be kept in mind that if your aerobics exercise routine is not regular you might not be able to lose weight as desired. Also, if you consume enough extra calories to meet your increased energy needs you will fail to lose weight.
It is advisable to exercise at least three times a week for 20-30 minutes at a time in order to benefit from your aerobic exercises. Reduce intake of high fat food, sugary food and alcohol to avoid extra calorie intake.
Other benefits of aerobics are:
  • Releases the natural pain killers of your body.
  • Enhances immune system.
  • Increases agility and is also considered to increase your IQ.
  • Improves muscle strength.
  • Improves balance and coordination.
  • Reduces stress, thus resulting in better sleep patterns and no depression.
Aerobic exercises are certainly extremely beneficial not only for healthy weight loss but also for your overall well-being.

Neuroplasticity - Exercise for Your Child's Brain

10:26:00 AM
Recent technology has drastically increased the power of treatments and therapies for children with cerebral palsy. Previous research focused treatment on the muscular and skeletal systems of the body, aiming to increase range of motion and motor function in general. However, new data suggests that treatments are available that improve these areas as well as overall body and mental development. Modern medical research into the area of neuroplasticity is arguably one of the most promising areas of research for treating children with cerebral palsy.
What is Neuroplasticity?
Neuroplasticity describes how the brain can adapt to dramatic changes or injuries. Your brain works with a network of over 100 billion neurons that are nearly all connected with one another. Imagine a highway filled with cars; if an accident occurs on the road, the cars in the lane of the accident can merge into a new lane to continue onto their destination. The brain can behave similarly - damage to brain pathways can instruct brain neurons to reroute and create new pathways.
New research in this area can wield promising results for children with cerebral palsy. When damage to the brain results in cerebral palsy, there is a chance that the brain will form a new pathway, which can circumvent the damage and restore functionality to the affected area. This is more likely to happen in milder cases of cerebral palsy, but it is not entirely out of the question for severe cases (though it may take longer to occur). Activities such as exercise, education, interacting with others and cognitive remediation can increase the likelihood of these new pathways being formed. On the other hand, loss of sleep, bad nutrition and anxiety can serve to hinder their development.
Exercise is good for the brain
We all know physical activity is good for our bodies, but it can be good for our minds, as well. An article published in 2008, exercise can improve mood, cognition, processing and learning capability. However, such activity shouldn't be strenuous - intensive physical activity might cause more stress and tension than it relieves. Nevertheless, exercise has shown to be one of the best activities for rebuilding brain connections.
There are many ways you can step in to help your child get the most out of physical activities. Keeping the activity consistent and routine ensures that progress is being made. This can be much easier to achieve if you have a specific therapist to work with during each session. Aside from physical therapy sessions, consider incorporating physical activity into your child's playtime. If you can, take part in these activities - swing your child from a swing set or do some exercise with them to encourage them to continue.
Once your child with cerebral palsy is of age to attend school, they will likely take part in physical education. Talk to your child's instructor and make sure you understand what the class curriculum will be. You'll also want the instructor to know the severity of your child's condition so that they take it into account when devising the day's activities. If possible, see if the instructor can create an alternative program tailored to your child's needs. Once the school season is over, consider encouraging your child to take part in an after-school exercise program.

Flat Belly Diet Guidelines

4:45:00 AM
The most important thing you need to do in order to flatten your stomach is to follow a flat belly diet. Of course, exercise is also recommended, but when it comes to weight loss, nutrition is the key. This article reviews the major elements of a flat stomach diet which you can start following today. Read this article without skipping a word so you won't miss out on anything.
Before I start relating exactly which foods should and should not be included in a flat belly diet, I want to dispel one myth: a flat abs diet doesn't have to be a fat free diet. This may shock you, but there are some fats which are very healthy to eat. In fact, fat is as important to our body as protein and carbs. You just need to know the healthy fats from the dangerous ones.
Here are some foods which can be included in a flat belly diet:
  1. Fruit and vegetables - These are great snacks and also contain vitamins and other healthy ingredients.
  2. Lean protein - Protein is a must have macronutrient, but in order to get a flatter stomach get it from lean sources such as turkey, chicken breast, egg whites, and fish.
  3. Healthy fats - These are fats which are actually good for you: virgin olive oil, coconut oil, flax seeds, almonds, and other nuts are good sources of healthy fat.
  4. Complex carbs - wild rice, whole flour pasta, whole wheat bread, and other whole grain foods are excellent sources of carbs.
Here are some foods which should never be included in a flat tummy diet:
  1. Trans fats - these are unhealthy fats which you should stay clear of. Check out the label on the products you buy to see that they're trans fat free.
  2. Processed food - Eating fresh is usually eating healthy. If you eat processed food expect to find a dozen chemicals inside. All of these just make it harder for you to flatten your belly.
  3. Sugar - natural sugar from fruit and vegetables is ok, but processed sugar is very bad for you since it'll quickly be converted to fat. Avoid all the sugary sodas and useless candy. Alcohol should also be cut down.
If you follow these flat belly diet guidelines you will not only reduce your stomach fat, you will also feel better.

How to Lose Stomach Fat the Easy Way

6:59:00 AM
Nobody likes to have stomach fat. Thanks to today's fashion there are fewer ways to hide your belly fat and losing it in favor of the "six pack" abs that have become so popular (with "washboard stomachs" not far behind) is on most people's priority lists. Here is the good news: having some stomach fat doesn't always indicate poor health. Usually having a "belly" is more of an indication that your body is distributing your weight unevenly. Here are some quick tips to help you lose stomach fat:
1. Eat a healthy diet that is free of saturated fats and processed food. Natural foods are low in calories and easier for the body to digest. Eating a healthy diet is the first step in getting rid of belly fat.
2. Exercise regularly. It is important to exercise your whole body. That said, here are a few exercises designed specifically to help you lose stomach fat:
Lunges
Lunges help your backside as well as your "front side." Begin by standing tall with your hands on your hops and your feet a few inches apart. Tighten your stomach muscles but don't arch your back. Beginning with your right leg, take a large step forward while lifting your left heel slightly but keeping the rest of your left foot on the floor. Make sure your toes and your knees are pointed forward.
While keeping your legs in this position, lower your upper body until your front knee forms as close to a ninety degree angle as you can get without hurting yourself. Your knee should be over your ankle but not over your shoelaces. Your goal is to line up your pelvis with your right knee.
While returning to an upright position, bring your left leg forward to meet your right leg and repeat the process using your left leg.
Squats
Squats can be done any where at any time. Here's how to do them: start by standing upright. Your feet should be hip width apart. Your toes, knees and hips should form a straight line. Pull in your stomach muscles so that your belly button moves in toward your backbone and contract your abdominal muscles. Slowly bend your knees while keeping your upper body straight. The motion should feel like sitting down on a chair. You want to create ninety degree angles with your knees--or as close as you can get without hurting yourself. Your knees should stay behind your toes.
Hold this position for a single count and then slowly stand back up straight. When you stand back up take care to keep your weight on your heels or else you could do damage to your hips and knees. You should also take care not to lock your knees when you return to your standing position. Instead keep them bent a little bit. Don't raise or lower yourself too quickly. Each direction should take about three counts.
A single set of squats involves between ten and fifteen individual squats. To see a significant difference in your stomach fat you need to do between one and three sets every day.

Belly Bloat - How to Get Rid of Bloating Fast

12:31:00 PM
What causes bloating?
Mostly overeating, eating foods which do not agree with you thus producing excess gas, and constipation. Other causes include menstruation, food allergy/food intolerance and irritable bowel syndrome.
Suffering from belly bloat is a common but annoying disorder. You feel uncomfortable, lethargic, unmotivated, embarrassed because of your bulging belly and the rumble it makes, and are sometimes in pain.
Let us look at how to stop bloating and the basic lifestyle changes you can implement which are especially effective if you feel bloated after eating.
Stop overeating
Eat smaller, more frequent meals for better health and a bloat-free waistline.
Change your eating habits
Eating quickly increases pressure on your stomach and produces more gas. Sit down, chew your food well, and eat your meals in a leisurely manner, giving the food plenty of time to digest.
Drinking tea or coffee on the run is equally bad with excess air accompanying each sip and gulp. Savor your beverages by drinking them slowly.
Limit sugar substitutes
Sodas, sweets and chewing gum contain huge quantities of artificial sweeteners, especially sorbitol and xylitol which many people find difficult to digest, resulting in bloating, gas and diarrhea. Rather have real sugar than substitutes.
Cut out sodas
The bubbles in fizzy drinks cause bloating. Also refrain from drinking excessively hot or cold beverages.
Stop eating junk and processed food
Fried, oily food and high salt content cause bloating.
Abstain from carbohydrates at night
Bread and pasta cause you to retain water. Avoid eating them at night to be puff-free the next morning.
Early morning water and lemon juice
Start your day by drinking a glass of warm water with the juice of half a lemon; it speeds up waste elimination and removes toxins.
Eat potassium rich foods
Bananas, cantaloupe, mangoes, spinach, tomatoes, nuts, asparagus and fresh chopped parsley regulate the fluid balance in your body and stop bloating.
If you suffer from constipation, eating sufficient fruit, vegetables and high fiber, such as oatmeal, will improve your digestion and remedy your bloating problem.
Drink water
Water flushes out your system and aids digestion. Instead of alcohol, caffeine and colas, drink plain water and natural teas.
Limit excess air
Do not eat and talk at the same time, drink out of a straw, chew gum nor smoke because the surplus air accompanying these activities causes you to bloat.
Eat foods easily digested by your body
Bland foods, such as fish, chicken, soya based foods, yogurt and rice do not tax your digestive system.
Limit gas producing foods
Notice which raw vegetables cause you to bloat, then either boil them or do not eat them at all. The cellulose in cabbage, peas and beans is hard to digest and may cause you to puff up.
Other common gas producing foods are cruciferous vegetables, root vegetables, lentils, prunes and garlic.
Menstruation
Bloating, together with water weight gain and mood swings, are associated with premenstrual tension. Ensure you get 1200 milligrams calcium and 200 to 400 milligrams magnesium daily. Both nutrients help relieve PMS symptoms, including bloating. If you wish, take Midol which contains a mild diuretic.
Natural remedies
Add turmeric, coriander, caraway and cumin when cooking.
Naturists claim teas made of ginger, savory from the mint family, lime from a linden tree, peppermint, rosemary, and caraway are effective for bloating relief.
They may be right because ginger tea helps with stomach upsets and peppermint oil in tea or warm water after a big meal aids digestion.
Exercise
Walking for 15 to 20 minutes a day moves food through your digestive tract, thereby reducing bloating and combating constipation. Other benefits include less severe menstrual cramps, eliminating toxins by perspiring, and shedding body fat.
Apply pressure
Massaging your abdomen helps evacuate gas and reduces bloating. Start by pressing your fingers near your right hip, slide up towards the ribs, move across and down in a circular motion.
Supplements and home remedies
Taking a digestive enzyme with each meal provides relief, especially when bloating results from a problem with your digestive tract, such as diverticulosis. Obtain digestive enzymes with the active ingredients lipase, protease and amylase, from any health store. Restaurant owners should actually hand out digestive enzymes instead of after-dinner mints to all patrons who selected anything other than raw foods from their menus.
Probiotics are 'good bacteria' which help keep you regular and bloat-free. Your intestinal tract has loads of bacteria, some beneficial, some harmful, which play an important role in the functioning of your digestive and immune systems.
Probiotics encourage the growth and replenishment of healthy microflora. They crowd out the bad bacteria which cause disease, yeasts and parasites in your intestines, they help digest and absorb your food, eliminate wastes and toxins by restoring normal and regular bowel function, and maintain a healthy intestinal function.
Ideally 85% of your bacteria should be friendly with 15% unfriendly. Probiotic supplements can be found in capsule, powder or liquid form, or in foods such as kefir and yogurt.
If you do not consume enough fruit and vegetables, take nutritional supplements that contain dietary fibers especially during the holidays or when celebrating to better handle the foods that cause you to swell up.
Apple cider vinegar helps ease digestive symptoms and gets rid of bloating and gas pain.
Lactobacillus supplements also help maintain intestinal health.
Bismuth, the active ingredient in Pepto-Bismol, is an element on the periodic table. 100% natural, taken before or directly after a meal reduces swelling caused by food allergies and neutralizes the odor of your flatulence.
Medication
If you take antibiotics, which destroy your friendly bacteria, take B complex vitamins too.
Some oral contraceptive pills cause your stomach to distend, in which case ask your physician to prescribe a different one.
Once you incorporate these lifestyle changes, they should cure you or at least relieve bloating.
If your condition persists, let us look at what else it might be and what you can do about it.
Food allergy
If you bloat after eating certain foods, keep a food journal where you write down everything you eat, together with any symptoms which appear. Rotate foods until you identify which foods trigger bloating and avoid them.
Although you may not test positive for food allergies, you may have a food intolerance. Common culprits include yeast, wheat, where the gluten causes excess gas to be produced, and milk.
Lactose intolerance
This means your body does not produce the enzyme lactase and your digestive system cannot digest the lactose in dairy foods. It then ferments and forms gases which overstretch your bowel.
How do you know if you are lactose intolerant? Drink a glass of milk. If you experience gas, bloating or diarrhea, avoid dairy products or drink lactose free milk.
Yogurt's active bacteria cultures produce lactase, so if you want to eat cheese without bloating afterwards, add a bowl of yogurt to your morning ritual.
Irritable bowel syndrome
IBS, characterized by abdominal pain, bloating, constipation and/or diarrhea, may be the cause of your bloating.
Eat more fiber and give up coffee, cigarettes and spicy foods which irritate your colon.
Some people swear by going on a detoxification diet two or three times a year to give your body a chance to cleanse itself of accumulated toxins.
Diabetes
Diabetics often have problems with bloating and diarrhea, especially if they take large doses of metformin or glucophage.
Diabetics with nerve damage in their stomach may find food collects but does not empty properly, resulting in excessive belching. Medication eases this problem.
Medication
Although over-the-counter products offer quick relief by suppressing the symptoms, the benefits will be short-lived because they do not eliminate the cause.
Common effective medications such as Gas-X, Beano, Phazyme and Flatulex, when taken with each meal, help break up gas pockets in the stomach, thereby relieving bloating and gas pain.
The pain is not actually caused by your swollen stomach but by abdominal contractions not synchronizing properly. When your intestinal wall pulls in different directions it feels like stomach cramps.
Most bloating medication contain enzymes like alpha-galactosidase which help digest the sugars in carbohydrates, the main culprit of your indigestion problems.
Pink Pepto-Bismol type products have a salicylate ingredient which is like aspirin. It will alleviate some of your abdominal pain but if it disagrees with you, try Gas-X or Phazyme which contain simethicone.
Activated charcoal
Consider using this over-the-counter supplement. When taken with meals, it prevents or at least reduces the amount of gas produced.
It sometimes causes irregular looking stools and constipation so do not be alarmed, and in case it affects the absorption of prescription medicine, take it an hour or two after any scheduled medication.
Tips and warning
Bloating and gas pain should dissipate quite quickly. If not, if it becomes more than a slight annoyance, or if accompanied by bloody or tarry stools, fever, night sweats or weight loss, consult your doctor.
He might suggest a colonoscopy to help him diagnose your problem. Endure it because your colon plays a major role in your life and until it is sorted out, you will feel unwell. Once he determines the medical cause, he will treat and cure you of your suffering.
Bloating is also one of the primary symptoms of ovarian cancer, a 'silent' disease difficult to detect early.
Although the remote possibility exists of it being something serious, bloating is much more likely to be a minor inconvenience which you can get rid of fast by making simple lifestyle changes.

Low Cholesterol Recipes

1:11:00 PM
First of all you can begin by taking a favorite dish and modifying the standard recipe into a low fat and low cholesterol version. Cholesterol should be avoided or markedly reduced. Avoid animal-based foods such as egg yolk, beef and pork, poultry and dairy products.
Before going into specific low cholesterol recipes, do follow the advice below for converting normal recipes into low cholesterol recipes.
LOW CHOLESTEROL RECIPES & MEATS
Even lean meat has fat in it. Here are some ways to reduce the saturated fat in meat and the possibility of making with it low cholesterol recipes:
Broil rather than pan-fry meats such as hamburger, lamb chops, pork chops and steak.
Use a rack to drain off fat when broiling, roasting or baking. Instead of basting with drippings, keep meat moist with wine, fruit juices or an acceptable oil-based marinade.
Cook a day ahead of time. Stews, boiled meat, soup stock or other dishes in which fat cooks into the liquid can be refrigerated. Then the hardened fat can be removed from the top.
Make gravies after the fat has hardened and can be removed from the liquid.
When a recipe calls for browning the meat first, try browning it under the broiler instead of in a pan.
LOW CHOLESTEROL RECIPES & VEGETABLES
With vegetables you can naturally make low cholesterol recipes, since vegetables hardly havy any cholesterol. Add herbs and spices to make vegetables even tastier. For example, these combinations add new and subtle flavors:
Rosemary with peas, cauliflower and squash
Oregano with zucchini
Dill with green beans
Marjoram with Brussels sprouts,
carrots and spinach
Basil with tomatoes.
Start with a small quantity (1/8 to 1/2 teaspoon to a package of frozen vegetables), then let your own and your family's taste be your guide. Chopped parsley and chives, sprinkled on just before serving, also enhance the flavor of many vegetables.
Try cooking vegetables in a tiny bit of vegetable oil, adding a little water during cooking if needed, or use a vegetable oil spray. Only 1 to 2 teaspoons of oil is enough for a package of frozen vegetables that serves four. Place in a skillet with tight cover, season, and cook over a very low heat until vegetables are done.
LOW CHOLESTEROL RECIPES & SODIUM
Most of us eat much more sodium than we need. In some people, this can lead to high blood pressure, which increases the risk of stroke, heart disease and kidney disease. The American Heart Association eating plan limits sodium intake to 2,400 milligrams per day. That's about a teaspoon of salt. People with high blood pressure may need stricter limits on sodium.
Most of the sodium in our diets is added either during processing, while preparing food or at the table. To help you reduce sodium in your diet:
Use less salt or no salt at the table and in cooking.
Use herbs and spices in place of salt.
Limit your intake of foods high in added sodium, such as:
Canned and dried soups
Canned vegetables
Ketchup and mustard
Salty snack foods
Olives and pickles
Luncheon meats and cold cuts
Bacon and other cured meats
Cheeses
Restaurant and carry-out foods (such as French fries, onion rings, hamburgers)
MODIFYING RECIPES INTO LOW CHOLESTEROL RECIPES
To control the amount and kind of fat, saturated fat and dietary cholesterol you eat:
Select lean cuts of meat and trim off all visible fat before cooking.
Serve moderate portions, and try "low-meat" dishes featuring pasta, rice, beans and/or vegetables.
Use cooking methods that require little or no fat? boil, broil, bake, roast, poach, steam, saute, stir-fry or microwave.
Replace saturated fats with healthier substitutes. For example, when your own recipe calls for butter, lard, bacon, bacon fat or chicken fat, use margarine that contains no more than 2 grams of saturated fat per 1 tablespoon, or unsaturated vegetable oil.

The Top 10 Ways to Improve Your Diet, Your Health & Your Life!

11:27:00 AM
Because I believe diet and exercise are so important, I'm often frustrated with the recommendations I receive. Nutrition and natural health ideas are often so negative (don't eat this, watch out for that) or so rigorous (be sure to eat some raw, natural, organically grown vegetable I've never heard of) or so complicated, I end up ignoring them. And yet, I know diet is critical to my health and well-being, so I made up my own rules. My objective was simplicity, so all of you with greater will-power and more discipline, cut me some slack, OK? For the rest of us, I hope you find them useful.
1. Eat less. I used to eat until I was full, and then snack as a hobby. And, sometimes I still do. But, more and more, I decide when I've eaten enough, leave room for a treat later, and simply choose to eat a little less. I think it helps.
2. Drink more water. I used to try to drink 8 glasses a day, but I usually ended up either losing count...or just going to the bathroom a lot. Now, on my way to the table I stop by the sink and grab a glass of water. I figure that's more water than most people drink, it probably helps me eat less (see Rule #1), and sometimes it reminds me to drink even more. Close enough.
3. Eat more fruit. Benjamin Franklin said, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." I just know apples, a banana, some grapes or something "exotic" like a mango or a kiwi tastes good, and it's the fastest, most portable and convenient food I've found. A handful of those little baby carrots beats a sandwich by a good 90 seconds!
4. Eat your vegetables. Yeah, still listening to my mother. But on the positive side, they're so easy! No sauces, no mixing or blending or nothing! Raw, steamed or microwaved, they're great for adding color to a meal (greens, yellows, and beans in all sorts of colors). I know fresh and organically grown is best, and sometimes I buy them that way....
5. Eat more rice and baked potatoes. I score points with my doctor, my "significant other" and again, it's about the easiest cooking I've figured out.
6. Stretch when you feel like it. I used to follow a routine that recommended stretching and yoga for about 30 minutes every morning. Wonderful stuff! Very healthy. And someday I'm going to give it another try! For now, every morning, and several times during the day, I stand up and try to reach the ceiling. I bend, twist, shake my shoulders, breath deep, whatever seems to feel good at the moment. Then I get back to work.
7. Avoid exercise and elevators. OK, I believe jogging and sweating and lifting weights are good for me. And I do some of it. But I also find it useful to walk around the block to get the mail (the box is across the street) or take the stairs instead of the elevator. I walk the dog, push the lawnmower and play tennis and golf with my friends. That way I figure I'm exercising and leaving the gyms open for the rest of you.
8. Spend time with friends. Talking, sharing dreams, giving and receiving support, solving life's great mysteries and debating politics or religion with a friend does wonders for the soul. And, hugs are good. And if you have a life-partner, I find talking regularly seems to avoid a number of other problems, as well!
9. Laugh every day. Tell a joke, wrestle with your dog or play with the kids next door, but have some fun! Life's short.
10. Plan for dessert! At the end of the day, I really like something special to top it all off. So, I plan for a bite of chocolate or a cup of low-fat pudding or yogurt or a handful of fresh grapes. It sure seems to beat restlessly searching the cupboards and refrigerator for "something" and ending up with a big bowl of ice cream!
Finally, a few words of experience. It's OK to "slip" once in a while. At least it better be OK...I seem to do it periodically. Just get up again tomorrow, make the rules simpler, more fun or more appropriate for your situation and get right back on! I don't think the objective is perfection -- there's no point in having a heart attack getting all stressed out about the rules! Just go have some fun!

Useful Home Remedies for Back Pain

8:48:00 PM
People nowadays commonly suffer from back pain. This can be the result of working conditions, ineffective sitting patterns or even unhealthy lifestyle. No matter what the reason is, this type of pain is quite a common problem for a lot of people. However, there are simple home remedies which can alleviate the discomforts associated with simple back pain. They can be done safely and effectively at home. These are the following:
  • Massage therapy - One of the most common remedies for back pain is massage therapy. If you are experiencing pain that is caused by muscle tightening and muscle fatigue then a massage can be very effective. You can simply call a home masseuse or if your partner can give you a massage, then you can ask him/her to do so.
However, if you can't have a massage at home, you can simply get one from a massage parlor. If you suffer from frequent pain and would want to have a massage conveniently at home, any time you want, then you should also consider getting a massage chair. Most massage chairs nowadays are designed to mimic certain massage techniques that are quite effective in dealing with back pains.
  • Regular exercise - Another method of easing back pain is by getting regular exercise. Exercise can help promote blood circulation throughout the body. When your muscles don't get enough nutrients and oxygen, they will become weak and will be susceptible to muscle tension and pain. The back muscles often don't get enough blood flowing to them. Through exercise, you can help improve blood circulation to the back area. This can promote healthy muscles and relieve the pain.

  • Stretching - Tight muscle can be easily torn, causing a lot of pain. Your muscles need to be flexible to allow you to move well and to decrease muscle pains. It is recommended that you stretch your muscles, especially after prolonged assumption of a single posture. This can help keep the flexibility of your muscles and avoid strains which can cause severe discomfort for your back.

  • Having correct posture - The posture you assume each day while going about your daily routine can greatly contribute to the back pain that you are experiencing. If you often assume a position that places great strain on your back, especially in the lower region, you will find yourself having pains. This is especially true for people who often slouch. By keeping your back straight while sitting down and by avoiding slouching, then you can minimize the pressure on your lower back, thus decreasing the chances of back pain from occurring.

  • Take a break - If you often find yourself sitting down on a chair for long hours at work or at home, then you should also give your body a break. The entire weight of your upper body is placed on your lower back when you are sitting down. This can be quite strenuous, especially if you go on sitting for long hours. You should give your back some time to relax by standing up every now and then and stretch your muscles.
These are remedies for simple back pain which are caused by muscle tears, fatigue or improper posture. However, if you notice that the pain is quite intense and has been going for a long time, you should get yourself checked by a doctor. Chronic pain often signals a more serious condition.

How To Cure Your Frozen Shoulder With These Easy Steps

10:09:00 AM
Frozen shoulder is a serious condition that affects your shoulder joint. Older woman are most likely to be affected than other group. Approximately two percent of the entire population will have this condition in some time of their lives.
People with frozen shoulder syndrome usually suffer for approximately two years. They normally don't retain only 90% shoulder range of motion and lose 80% strength. Frozen shoulder has unique stages of recovery. They are:
  • Acute Stage (2 to 9 months)
This is when pain is at it's worse. Performing daily activities can be torturous and the patient is deprived of sleep. It is important you visit your GP (General Practitioner) as soon as possible so that he/she prescribe you with NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug) to relieve your inflammation and pain. It is best not to do any overhead movements and lifting during this period as it may aggravate your symptoms.
  • Stiff - Secondary Phase (4 to 12 months)
You should feel your pain subside but your joint will stiffen up. Putting bra on or turning a car wheel is difficult and slow. During this period, it is important you do strengthening and stretching exercises at least two to three times a day.
  • Recovery Phase (5 to 26 months)
Your shoulder will gradually "loosen up" and pain wouldn't be a problem anymore. Continue doing the shoulder exercises but the focus should be more on co-ordination.
Overall, it would take a patient one to two years for the condition to be resolved. Don't lose hope and keep on doing your exercises everyday.

Best Foods to Eat While You Are Pregnant

9:55:00 AM
No matter how healthy your diet may be, you might have to change it a little while you are pregnant. Some foods you may want to eliminate altogether, while others, you will want to increase in your daily menu. In our modern research, we try to figure out more about health, food, and nutrition during pregnancy. In order to do this, we need to learn more about the very foods that we eat and how they affect our bodies.
For example, you might ask what impact vegetarian diets, red meats, strong cheeses, organic foods or others may have on how your baby grows during the nine months of pregnancy.
Foods You Want to Eat
During your first trimester, foods that have a lot of protein, are the best foods that you can choose to eat. By consuming more protein you will be giving your baby the main building block of all cells. Protein is especially critical, since your tiny unborn child develops their major organs in these 3 months.
Vegetarians
Any vegetarian diet should be filled with foods that contain protein for cellular growth and development. You may be surprised at the variety of vegetarian protein that is really available. Beans with rice very high in protein and come a colorful variety.
Meat Eaters
For non-vegetarians, turkey, beef, tuna, and finally chicken have a high level of protein per ounce ranked from most to least. If you are on a vegetarian diet, beans and rice are excellent protein sources when combined. If money is tight, two eggs or peanut butter are other options.
For a fast, handy snack, vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike, can have protein by grabbing a small handful of natural almonds with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Almonds are packed with vitamins and minerals that help you ensure that your baby gets exactly what nutrition it needs the most.
Organic Foods
Organic foods also need to be carefully selected, since they may be prone to have more natural residues. However, if they are grown locally, these foods may be better for your body since it is more used to the immediate environment. Be sure to check where and how they are grown, such as being a hybrid of two or more strains of foods.
Foods You Want to Avoid
There are certain types of fish and cheese, that may actually be bad to eat while pregnant. These are foods that you may want to check out, before heading to your favorite seafood restaurant or fixing yourself a sandwich. Check with your medical provider before munching on raw sushi, oyster, muscles, octopus, and similar raw fish.
Cheese
In addition, some strong cheeses may carry bacteria that could hurt your baby. Blue cheese, feta, wine cheese, Manchego sheep milk cheese, and others that have a potent aroma often require getting used to for adults, let alone a tiny fetus. You will most likely want to take these foods off your menu, at least while you are pregnant.
Sugar
Foods high in sugar take your body on an energy roller coaster, stressing both you and your unborn child. Pregnancy takes an enormous amount of energy already and may suffer by extreme energy swings. If you must have something sweet, try foods such as applesauce, grapes, or other raw fruit. Use spices to add flavor to fruit to make it have more taste. Do avoid honey as it has a bacteria that can hurt small children.
Healthy Food Makes A Long Term Difference
Through all stages of your life, eating the proper foods makes a difference to your overall health. But, during pregnancy it is absolutely critical to the normal growth of your baby. Making a list of the right and wrong foods to eat can help you and your baby stay on a nutritious track.
By making a careful selection for your menu, you help to ensure not just a safe nine months of pregnancy, but a safe start so your baby can grow those first teeth and strong legs to walk on.

5 Tips to Lower High Cholesterol Naturally

9:57:00 AM
Here are my top 5 tips to lower high cholesterol naturally. If you can avoid taking cholesterol-lowering statin drugs, you will be healthier and happier. Making the following suggestions a part of your routine will help you do that.
Tip 1 - Exercise Regularly
Exercising raises good HDL cholesterol levels. HDL particles carry fats and cholesterol away from your bloodstream and back to the liver for reprocessing or disposal. Bad LDL cholesterol gets stuck in your bloodstream. The particles carry fat and cholesterol to your cells and tissues, rather than back to your liver.
HDL particles will also "pick up" LDL cholesterol when it comes across the particles in your bloodstream. So, as your HDL levels increase, your LDL levels decrease naturally.
Tip 2 - Avoid Saturated and Tran-Fats
Dietary cholesterol is less of a problem than saturated and trans-fats. Research indicates that if you severely limit your cholesterol intake, your liver will produce more of it. Your body needs cholesterol for a variety of functions. Having blood cholesterol that is too low is just as bad as having high cholesterol.
Saturated and trans-fats increase the total blood triglycerides, the total fats in your bloodstream. They also cause increased production of LDL cholesterol. Saturated fats are found in butter and other fats that are solid at room temperature. Trans-fats are found primarily in processed foods as partially hydrogenated oils.
Tip 3 - Get More Soluble Fiber in Your Diet
Soluble fiber is found in whole grains like oatmeal and in other foods. Some cholesterol is found in your digestive tract, because of the foods you eat and also because blood cholesterol is deposited in the digestive tract. The cholesterol in the digestive tract can be reabsorbed into the bloodstream instead of passing out of your body as waste.
Soluble fiber absorbs cholesterol in the digestive tract and carries it out of your body. Less cholesterol is reabsorbed and less is absorbed from the foods that you eat. So, soluble fiber lowers high cholesterol naturally.
Be very cautious about fiber supplements derived from psyllium husks. They can cause blockages. Supplements derived from kiwifruit pulp and skins are the best alternatives. They contain soluble and insoluble fibers, as well as phenolic compounds that contribute to good digestion.
Tip 4 - Take Fish Oil
Fish oil can raise HDL levels. It is a healthy source of fat. The supplement may also reduce the risk of clot formation and prevent cholesterol from sticking to the inside of the arterial walls.
Tip 5 - Take a Good Multi-Nutritional Supplement
The better multi-nutritional supplements contain ingredients that are known to lower high cholesterol naturally. Ingredients to look for include:
· Policosanol (raw sugar cane extract)
· Theaflavins (green tea extract)
· Phytosterols (from soy and other plant foods)
· Rice bran oil (oryzanol)
· Lecithin (a soy extract)
· D-limonene (citrus rind extract)
Many of these nutrients are sold as stand-alone supplements for lowering cholesterol. While any one of the ingredients may be somewhat effective, together they may work in synergy to produce results as good as those of prescription drugs.
The results are actually better, because you get lower cholesterol naturally without the side effects of prescription drugs.
