The Many Benefits of Yoga

12:05:00 PM
Many studies have been conducted to determine which areas will benefit from an extended practice of yoga. Yoga practitioners are most likely to see improvements in the areas of physiology, psychology, and biochemistry.
Furthermore, practitioners of yoga speak of a unification of the body, mind and spirit achieved through the practice of yoga exercises and breathing techniques. But, of course, that is a bit difficult to test scientifically.
Yoga Is An Ancient Way of Life
Yoga is not a recent development. It has been practiced for thousands of years, during which time people have greatly benefited from it. 1 of the fundamental beliefs shared by yogis is that the mind and the body are a unified system, which in a proper environment, can find harmony and self-healing.
Demonstrated Health Benefits
Many doctors consider yoga to have therapeutic results, and recommend it for several illnesses and conditions, mainly related to the nervous system.
From the physiological point of view, extended yoga practice can benefit:
- pulse rate
- respiratory problems
- blood pressure dysfunctions
- help stabilize the nervous system
- gastrointestinal functions
- endocrine function
- the range of motion in joints
- endurance
- energy level
- immunity to diseases
- cardiovascular efficiency
- improve eye-hand coordination
- reaction time
- dexterity
- depth perception
- sleep
- etc.
Yoga's psychological benefits include:
- enhanced somatic and kinesthetic awareness
- self-acceptance
- self-actualization
- social skills
- well-being
- concentration
- memory
- attention
- mood
- learning efficiency
- and more
As for the biochemical benefits of yoga, tests have shown improvements in:
- glucose
- sodium
- cholesterol
- total white blood cell count
- vitamin C
- total serum protein
- hemoglobin.
Deep Organ and Joint Stimulation
Various studies revealed that yoga exercises are extremely effective at increasing joint flexibility, and at lubricating and strengthening the joints, ligaments and tendons. Another interesting finding is that yoga is one of the very few forms of exercise capable of massaging all the internal organs and glands. This includes organs that are rarely stimulated, such as the prostate. The stimulation and massaging of the internal organs proves to be extremely beneficial for health.
Elimination of Toxins
These ancient and efficient yoga techniques also provide a thorough detoxification of the body. Stretching the muscles and performing a complete yoga workout acts as a massage, thereby ensuring the optimal blood supply to every organ. Consequently, toxins are eliminated from the body and certain undesired processes, such as aging, are delayed.
All of these remarkable health benefits are available from yoga practice. What are you waiting for? Let's go find a yoga school!

ADHD Natural Treatment - Yoga

10:21:00 AM
Most children take stimulant medication like Ritalin to manage their attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. But just because prescription drugs are the most widely-used treatment option for ADHD, this does not necessarily mean it is the best treatment. In previous articles, we have talked about how ADHD medication benefits only a small percentage of children, and how these improvements last only a short period of time. Instead of depending on medication as a quick fix to this complex disorder, your child might recover from ADHD completely through natural mind/body approaches.
As part of a holistic treatment plan, yoga is known to help children with ADHD overcome their inattentive and hyperactive tendencies. Yoga makes use of physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayamas), and deep relaxation exercises to calm the minds of children and strengthen their nervous systems. Yoga's spiritual component also promotes greater internal awareness, which helps the child control impulses and learn to focus - two things that children with ADHD have difficulty doing.
A number of researchers have devoted their time to studying how yoga can help reduce ADHD symptoms in children. When the whole body is involved in physical activity, brain functioning drastically improves, because it receives neuronal stimulation from the postural muscles. Certain routines like the Sun Salutation are designed to stimulate both sides of the brain, to facilitate efficient learning and assist brain integration. The physical demands of the practice also serve as an excellent outlet for pent-up energy, especially for children with ADHD Hyperactive Type. At the same time, the slow pace teaches children how to exert control and focus on the task at hand.
Aside from the exercise, the structure of the yoga class itself instills discipline and focus in a calm, non-competitive environment. A typical yoga class for ADHD children begins with arranging the mat space and performing breathing exercises to warm up. Afterwards, children perform asanas designed to improve coordination and balance, which helps them control their thoughts and direct their attention to relevant stimuli. The calming atmosphere of the yoga studio also decreases the number of stress hormones, which are known to aggravate ADHD.
What makes yoga a particularly helpful treatment is that the qualities learned can be used in practical, everyday situations. Learning to control impulse and attention alone will increase your child's academic performance and enable them to harness their potentials. Yoga will also teach your child to listen to the instructor and follow directions instead of running off before instructions are given. In other words, yoga can correct certain behaviors characteristic of ADHD as it rehabilitates the body and mind.
Although the benefits of yoga will not show up immediately, the changes that will occur are profound and will last forever. Of course, yoga alone cannot treat ADHD. For your child to benefit from yoga, it should be part of a comprehensive treatment program that includes healthy meals, a toxin-free environment, and other therapeutic approaches designed to treat ADHD naturally.

How to Get Rid of Leg Pain Sciatica Pain & Disc Herniation Pain Now Fast & Safely

9:29:00 AM
The number one reason people go to see their doctors is for the complaints of leg pain, sciatica pain and back pain. The majority of people in the world today suffer from sciatica and back pain. Yet most of them have no idea why they suffer from their pain, nor do they know what they must do to get rid of their leg pain and back pain.
In order to get rid of back pain you must first know what is causing your pain. More often than not, your pain is being caused by tight muscles, pinched nerves, disc herniations and excessive stress and strain on the body.
Most sciatica and back pain are the result of years of performing the same strenuous physical activity, like your job, over and over again. Another cause of sciatica and back pain are traumatic incidents like work-related accidents, car accidents and sports injuries.
The pain can be caused from your back muscles and leg muscles being extremely tight. Tight muscles alone can cause your sciatica and back pain. The best treatment for tight muscles would be therapies that relax and relieve the muscle spasms. Such therapies include massage therapy, hydrotherapy, chiropractic therapy and gentle stretching exercises. Sometimes these therapies alone can get rid of your leg pain and sciatica pain.
Another cause of your sciatica and back pain could be disc herniations in your low back. The best way to describe this type of injury is to think of your disc as a jelly doughnut. That is sitting between the bones / vertebrate of your spine. These discs / jelly doughnuts act like a shock absorber for your spine and nervous system. When your disk is herniated you can liken it to a jelly donut with a jelly squirting out of the side of the doughnut. When the gel that is in your disk protrudes out to the side it usually will sit on a nerve.
Since the nerves that come out of the low back region travel into your buttocks legs feet and toes when these nerves are pinched buying a disc herniation. The pain will travel down the course of the nerve like a highway into your buttocks legs feet and toes.
To determine if you suffer from a disc herniation. Your doctor, usually will order an MRI, which is the gold standard test for finding out if your disk is herniated.
To get rid of your leg pain and sciatica pain. Your doctor will usually recommend therapy in the form of chiropractic therapy and physical therapy. Treatment will usually consist of massage therapy, electric muscle stimulation, stretching exercises and strengthening exercises.
If these therapies do not work and usually your doctor will recommend the decompression therapy and more epidural injection therapy into the spine.
Because decompression therapy is not an invasive procedure and does not require any injections into the spine doctors are prone to recommend this therapy before epidural injection therapy into the spine.
Usually decompression therapy will get rid of your leg pain and sciatica pain from a disc herniation. However, if decompression therapy does not relieve your pain 100%. Then doctors will usually recommend epidural injection therapy.
The epidural injection therapy will help get rid of the inflammation and swelling of the disc and nerves.
Often times, after a course of epidural injection therapy doctors will usually recommend another trial of decompression therapy in order to relieve their patients pain 100%.

How Yoga Will Promote Weight Loss

9:23:00 AM
If you are battling with weight gain or obesity due to unhealthy eating habits or lack of sufficient exercise, then yoga should be of interest to you. It is possible to lose weight as well as to relax by engaging in yoga. Yoga will strengthen your core, tone you up and increase your flexibility with the various poses, techniques and diets. Here is a look at a plethora of ways in which yoga can lead to weight loss.
Yogic poses (asanas)
These poses are geared towards fitting your health needs and age. A yoga instructor keeps in mind your health issues before prescribing certain yogic poses that may help you lose weight effectively. These asanas include sun salutation, shoulder stand, fish, wheel and bird poses, triangle poses among others. In addition, these poses help to check weight gain due to hormonal imbalance as well as allow the endocrine glands to run smoothly. The immune system is strengthened and indigestion and allergies are reduced by these yoga poses.
Yogic techniques
The Prana Shakti is a very effective and ancient method of balancing one's weight. This technique is void of physical movements but deals with the invocation of the life force called Prana through breath. The Prana converts into heat that burns fat and consequently weight loss. Mastering this technique takes only a few weeks of practice.
Yogic diets
Postures, poses and techniques work hand in hand with the yogic diets to lose weight effectively. Healthy eating habits, detoxifying frequently and avoiding junk and sugary foods, while eating a balanced yogic diet with lots of water intake are a must if you want to lose weight. Yoga alters your taste of food naturally, without deprivation or any effort. Yoga helps you to be in touch with your body and hence get to refrain from energy draining foods or sugars. Yoga will help you eat in a healthy manner leading to weight loss and consequently better health.
Positive mental attitude
Accepting that you have weight issues that need attention is the first step to the weight loss journey. Changing your attitude towards exercise and healthy diets in relation to your desired weight is of importance. Yoga allows for holistic thinking that integrates the whole person. It requires the presence of the body, mind, spirit and heart to have a unified way of living and a new positive attitude. This naturally controls your emotional, physical and spiritual needs and hence you are able to say no to overfeeding, laziness and poor feeding habits without strain and be on the path of losing weight.
Yoga motions
First timers who intend to lose weight should partake yoga but at small steps. Start small and grow with practice until you can withstand intense activities or poses. The intensity and aggressiveness of the superior yoga movements, act as workouts that lead to weight loss but should be carried out with care and under an instructor.
Certainly, yoga is one of the best ways to lose weight smartly and as a long term measure. You do not have to force your body to accept certain crash diets or hectic exercises but in the relaxing and meditative poses, techniques, diets, motions, and attitude change, weight loss is achievable.
