Goitre is the swelling of thyroid gland and appears on the back a
person's neck. Medical Research suggests that women are more prone to
Goitre than men. The common cause of Goitre is deficiency of iodine in the diet. Iodine in its organic form is required by the thyroid gland in its secretion.
Take Iodine in its organic form. Eat foods like turnips, carrots,
garlic, pineapples, whole rice, tomatoes, watercress, strawberries,
guavas; lettuce, onions, oats, citrus fruits, egg yolks, seafoods, etc should be taken in ample amounts.
Goiters of all types will regress with treatment of
the underlying condition. Dietary iodine may be all that is needed.
However, if an iodine deficient thyroid that has grown in size to
accommodate its deficiency is suddenly supplied an adequate amount of
iodine, it could suddenly make large amounts of thyroxin and cause a
thyroid storm, the equivalent of racing your car motor at top speed.
Hyperthyroidism can be treated with medications, therapeutic doses of
radioactive iodine, or surgical reduction. Surgery is much less common
now than it used to be because of progress in drugs and radiotherapy.
Radioactive iodine. In some cases, radioactive iodine is used to treat
an overactive thyroid gland. The radioactive iodine is taken orally and
reaches your thyroid gland through your bloodstream, destroying thyroid
cells. The treatment results in diminished size of the goiter but
eventually may also cause an underactive thyroid gland. Hormone
replacement with the synthetic thyroid hormone levothyroxine then
becomes necessary, usually for life.

Asthma Cure - Herbs and Ayurvedic Remedies, Asthma Home Remedy
12:09:00 PM
Asthma is a chronic respiratory disorder in which the inner lining of
the respiratory tract becomes inflamed. Alternatively it could be
blocked with a layer of mucus or could become constricted due to some
other reason. All these factors could lead to severe problems in
respiration, which could even result in death of the person.
Though asthma is a chronic disorder, it does not manifest itself all the time. It is exacerbated by certain triggers, which can lead to the bouts of respiratory problems, known as asthmatic attacks. During an asthmatic attack, there is severe difficulty in breathing, characterized by wheezing, gasping, shortness of breath and inability of speech. Generally an attack does not last more than a few minutes. However, a severe attack could kill within those few moments the attack lasts.
The exact cause of asthma is not known. But in asthmatic people, the attacks are caused due to some environmental factors to which they are allergic. There are many allergenic factors in the environment such as dust, hair, pollen, lint, smoke, cigarette smoke, perfumes, deodorants and many others. When such an allergen is present in the environment of the person whose respiratory tract is inflamed, the person develops a violent reaction. This is known as an asthmatic attack.
Asthma is known as Shwaasa roga in Ayurveda. There are five main types of asthma in Ayurveda: tamaka shwaasa roga, urdhwa shwaasa roga, chinna shwaasa roga, maha shwaasa roga and kshudra shwaasa roga. All these kinds of shwaasa roga are due to vitiation of vata and kapha doshas. The main types of vata that are vitiated are the praana vata and the udaana vata.
(1) Useful Herbs in the Treatment of Asthma
- Aniseed (Pimpinella anisum)
Aniseed is useful in the treatment of asthma due to its expectorant properties.
- Arjuna (Terminalia arjuna)
The bark of the arjuna plant has benefits in the treatment of asthma. It is taken in a powder form sprinkled on the preparation of rice and condensed milk known as kheer.
- Asafetida (Ferula fetida)
Along with whooping cough and bronchitis, asafetida is also useful in the treatment of asthma. For better results, its gum is taken in a mixture with honey.
- Bay Berry (Myrica nagi)
Bay berry bark is effective in the treatment of asthma. It can be taken in the form of either a decoction or a powder.
- Bishop's Weed (Trachyspermum ammi)
Bishop's weed is an expectorant. It can relieve dried up phlegm within the respiratory tract. It can be taken with buttermilk for best results.
- Black Nightshade (Solanum nigrum)
Black nightshade can remove the catarrh and phlegm deposited in the bronchial tubes. Its fruits are taken for the remedy.

How Can Goiter be Cured?
1:31:00 PM
The best treatment for a goiter is a subtotal thyroidectomy. This is an
operation in which most of the thyroid gland is removed. There are some
research studies suggesting that putting a patient on a thyroid hormone
pill everyday may help to shrink goiters or keep them from growing.
However, there are other studies suggesting that this may not work.
There are also studies suggesting that even a mild overdose of thyroid
hormone, if taken for many years, can result in osteoporosis and may put
older individuals at risk for abnormal heart rhythms.
A physical examination usually reveals redness and swelling of blood vessels in the conjunctiva. The doctor may take a specimen of conjunctival scrapings to determine if the conjunctivitis is bacterial, viral or caused by other sources, such as allergies or chemicals.
Make a smooth paste using little water and watercress seeds and apply it on the goiter swelling. Watercress is an excellent source if iodine and when taken internally will also help reduce goiter symptoms.
Goitre, also known, as bronchocele is a term applied to the swelling on the front of the neck caused by the enlargement of the thyroid gland. It is caused by deficiency of iodine in the diet. It is an endemic disease prevalent in the hill districts of the country. The growth of the thyroid gland is generally unattended by pain but if the goiter becomes large it may cause hoarseness. Too enlarged a goiter interferes with breathing and capacity to swallow.
Another best way to get rid of thyroid malfunctioning is go for fasting. Keep yourself on fruits and vegetable juices. After couple of weeks, start with light but nutritious diet. Some of the Ayurvedic herbs like 'Kanchanar' have been used in Ayurvedic science since years to treat thyroid related problems. For this, one can go for its leaves or can take any patent medicines containing the herb. It is also used as a natural cure for goiter.By Peter Hutch

Allergy Fighting Vitamins and Herbs - For Children
7:26:00 AM
An allergy is a hypersensitivity to one or more things that are
in the environment. The allergy can show itself as a skin condition such
as eczema, respiratory conditions such as hay fever or asthma or food
allergies. One in six children in the United States is allergic to one
or more substances.
Common symptoms of allergies in children include:
- sniffling and a postnasal drip, inflammation of the nasal passages
- dark circles under they eyes (what is often called the allergic shiner),
- puffiness under the eyes,
- restlessness,
- fatigue,
- poor sleep,
- headaches,
- behavioral issues, such as:
- - irritability,
- - hyperactivity,
- - poor concentration, and
- pickiness with food.
Recommendations
Try
to remove the source of the allergic reaction - at least as much as
possible. There is often a dietary allergy. The most common food
allergies are dairy and wheat - these are often the allergy behind nasal
congestion. Eat a healthy diet that emphasizes plenty of fresh fruit
and vegetables. Any chemical additives that are found to be the cause of
allergies need to be eliminated.
Vitamin and Minerals Supplement
These are aimed at balancing the immunity, reducing inflammation and enhancing intestinal health and promoting relaxation.
- Beta-carotene, up to 10,000 units daily and foods that are rich in vitamin A - dark colored fruit and vegetables.
- Essential fatty acids in the form of evening primrose oil, 500 mg one to four times per day.
- Zinc, 5 mg daily.
- Vitamin C with bioflavonoids, 250 - 500 mg taken two to four times each day.
- Vitamin E, 50 to 200 mg daily.
- Vitamin B complex supplement daily.
- Calcium citrate or lactate 600 to 800 mg daily in combination with 300 to 400 mg of magnesium.
Herbal treatments
The treatments can be maintained regularly or used as needed during bad allergy seasons or with flare-ups.
The following herbs are most helpful:
- Nettle - an immune system herb which stimulates lymphatic function. It is also used to stabilise the histamine produced by the body to excess in allergic reactions.
- Elder flowers - used to dry up excessive catarrh in the upper respiratory passages and it also has an anti-microbial action and is a relaxant.
- Ginkgo - reduces platelet activating factor which plays a key role in allergic and inflammatory processes. It also improves cerebral circulation, cerebral oxygenation, enhances memory and reduces depression. This makes this herb a good choice for allergy related behavioral problems.
- Plantain - is used to reduce upper respiratory congestion and it can be easily combined with other herbs.
- Anise seed - has a warming effect on the digestive and upper respiratory tracts which is useful for reducing secretions. It is also mildly antiseptic and relaxing for the respiratory system.
- Ginger - is an excellent anti-inflammatory and anti-catarrhal herb.
- Astragalus - an immune system enhancing herb which is particularly useful for the upper respiratory passages and also skin conditions.
Tincture for Allergy Remedy
The following
herbs balance the immune function, strengthen the upper respiratory
system, reduce inflammation and decrease secretions (improving runny
noses, watery eyes and ear congestion).
1 1/3 ounces elder tincture
2/3 ounces ginkgo tincture
2/3 ounces astragalus
2/3 ounces liquorice tincture
1/2 ounces anise seed tincture
Combine all of the ingredients and store in an amber glass bottle away from sunlight and heat.
Take 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon up to four times per day.
Hay Fever Remedy
To treat and alleviate the symptoms of hay fever the following combination of herbs can be most effective.
2 parts elder flowers
1 part ephedra (ma hung)
1 part eyebright
1 part golden seal
1 cup water
Combine
the herbs. You need about as much of the combined herb as you would for
a cup of coffee. Then add the cup of boiling water. Allow this to stand
for 10-15 minutes and let the mixture cool slightly. Strain the mixture
before you drink it. Drink 1 cup of this mixture 2 - 3 times per day.
Concluding Comments
Remember
that allergies are accumulative in their effects. During seasons when
people are exposed to higher than normal allergens, symptoms can become
much worse quite quickly if there is existing chronic exposure to other
allergens. The most common culprits are food allergies and these are
sometimes "silent" and undiagnosed. Improving the diet to eliminate
these can sometimes reduce the level of symptoms experienced even
seasonally to a tolerable level, so no treatment is needed at all. While
the above details are intended to be generally helpful and educational
they should not be construed as a replacement for individual advice from
a health professional. You should seek professional assistance if your
child's allergy is sudden, extreme, long-lasting or fails to improve.
Liquid vitamin and mineral supplements can be helpful.

Weight Loss Through Simple Home Remedies
6:15:00 AM
Being overweight is quite certainly one of the greatest health
risk people over the world are facing today. Medically, this condition
is known as obesity. Obese people are very vulnerable to a large number
of lethal diseases, such as atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, heart
attacks and other cardiovascular problems, diabetes, paralysis and
gangrene. Hence, doctors and medical experts all over the world stress
on maintaining a healthy weight to keep most diseases at bay.
In
Ayurveda, there are several dietary and herbal techniques by which
people can reduce weight. Just like it does in other treatments,
Ayurveda does not believe in any kind of debilitating treatment methods;
instead its treatments are centered on making the person lead a
healthier lifestyle. The following article is about some of the best
remedies and methods that people can do within their homes to achieve a
healthier profile.
Treatment with Simple Home Remedies
Remedy # 1
This
one is not actually a remedy, but it is the most important thing you
must do in order to keep your weight in a normal level. And that is,
stick to a healthy diet. The following are the dietary guidelines you
must follow in order to keep your waistline healthy: -
1 Do not overindulge in eating any one type of food. Keep your diet balanced.
2 Keep the intake of sugars and fats to a minimum. The fats to be avoided are the saturated fats and the trans-fatty acids.
3
Too much carbohydrates build weight. Hence, the intake of rice and
potatoes must be reduced. Wheat, barley and maize are ideal substitutes
for rice in people who has weight problems.
4 You must have at
least one bitter vegetable per day. This helps in the proper metabolism
of fats and do not allow them to accumulate in the body.
5 Never eat to full capacity.
6 Consume a lot of fluids in the day. This helps to eliminate the undigested foods effectively.
7
Exercise is extremely important. It is necessary to indulge in mild
physical activity after each meal even if you cannot make time to go to a
gym.
Remedy # 2
Have a totally salt-free diet once a week. This helps reduce weight. Also skip a meal once in a month.
Remedy # 3
Prepare
chutney of mint leaves. This must be taken with every single meal. It
helps in the proper breaking down of the fats. Also begin your day with a
cup of mint tea.
Remedy # 4
Vitamin C is very good for
people who are looking to reduce their weight. Since amalaki (Emblica
officinalis, Indian Gooseberry) is the best source of vitamin C in the
world, it is good to eat two three fruits of the amalaki each day. Also
have a glass of any one citrus fruit - orange, lemon, etc. - each day.
Green leafy vegetables also have good vitamin C content. They can be
consumed raw in the form of salads.
Remedy # 5
Honey is very
good for mobilizing the fats in the body. Take a spoonful of honey half
an hour after every meal. A good remedy is to mix a teaspoonful of
honey and lemon juice and have it twice a day. Alternatively, you can
take a bowl of warm water, put a teaspoonful each of honey and lemon
juice and drink it in the morning on an empty stomach. This is a very
good remedy to dissolve the excess fats.
Remedy # 6
The
Indian plum, i.e. jambula, is renowned for its weight controlling
properties. Jambula dissolves the excess fats and gets them properly
utilized in the body. Take four leaves of the jambula plant and soak
them in a glass of water overnight. In the morning, discard the leaves
and drink the water on an empty stomach. If you do this everyday, then
you will find a positive reduction in your weight in three weeks or a
month.
Treatment with Special Ayurvedic Methods
Ayurvedic
experts would first try to ascertain what dosha type the patient is,
because the treatment of obesity depends on that. Generally, Vashti
Karma is prescribed, a therapy that is quite like giving an enema. This
flushes the toxins from the body. Then other methods are employed to
reduce the excess fats.
There are various herbs and preparations
that are prescribed in order to treat obese people. Guduchi (Tinospora
cordifolia) and the Triphala choorna are definitely prescribed. It must
be noted that the Triphala contains amalaki, bibhitaki and haritaki; all
of which are extremely potent in dissolving the excess fats. Shilajit
is also prescribed quite often, as it removes the unwanted constituents
from the digestive system and provides the body with a good mineral
balance that it requires. Most importantly, the significance of a
healthy diet and an active lifestyle is stressed upon the patient.

TIPS TO PREVENT WHITE HAIR
2:25:00 PM
When the roots of your hair stop producing melanin, your hair loses
color and turns grey or white. Since hair consists of dead cells, once
grey or white hair is formed it cannot be changed. The age at which a
person’s hair becomes white depends on hereditary factors, but diet,
lifestyle and stress can also cause premature greying.
Most people would start to grow significant strands of white hair during their 30s and 40s. It embarrasses them but they can no longer ignore the problem. Many people start to dye their hair but that is not a lasting solution. Although there is no harm in getting your hair dyed, but there is nothing like naturally flawless black hair.
There is no way to reverse natural greying of hair as it depends on genetic factors, but you can prevent premature greying (hair becoming white) by following the tips given below:
#Walk early morning on wet grass bare foot.
#Use of Avla – Make a paste of Avla in water and apply to the hair. Let it rest for 1 to 2 hours and then rinse. Distinctly thickened and blackened texture of the hair would be visible after rinsing. You can also use Avla hair oil for massaging your hair.
#Fresh juices – Have fresh vegetables or their juices. The juices include carrot, lettuce, alfalfa and the like. These provide energy and vitality to your body while the drinks such as refined sugars, soft drinks, white flours and pastries.
#Indian gooseberry – Have as much of this fruit as possible. It is known to be a tonic for preventing white hair. You can also make a lotion with Indian gooseberry, lemon slices and coconut oil. Massage your scalp thrice a week and leave for an hour.
#Bhringraj oil - Use this oil to massage your hair. Consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner to know more about anti-pitta herbs as they help in preventing greying of hair.
#Fruit juices and honey – Apart from Avla, honey, brahmi, Shankhpushpi, Vacha and brahmi ghrutam are known Ayurvedic treatments for preventing white hairs.
#Black tea -Take black tea (without milk and sugar) and massage it on the roots of the hair. Leave it for 1 hour and then wash it.
#Shun unhealthy habits – Abuse of alcohol, prescription drugs and smoking have been linked to inhibition in hair growth.
#Try a home remedy - A home remedy for darkening gray hair involves making a weekly poultice. It is made from henna powder, coffee, yogurt, fenugreek, mint juice and basil juice. You need to apply for 3 hours before rinsing with a shampoo.

Herbal Remedies – Anti Fungal Treatment
11:22:00 AM
Fungi live on all surfaces of our
bodies. Under certain conditions, they cause infections, particularly in
warm and moist areas. The symptoms and appearances of a fungal skin
infection depend on the type of fungus causing it and the part of the
body affected. Fungal infections can affect not only the skin, but the
fingernails and scalp.
Garlic
herb is considered to be a very potent antimicrobial agent. It was used
by Albert Schweitzer to treat amebic dysentery, and also by Louis
Pasteur as an antibacterial agent. Garlic is one of the richest sources
of the element germanium, which is a potent inducer of interferon and
effective against certain cancers by modulating the immune response.
Candida
yeast infection is similar to a fungus. It generally affects the skin
around the nails or the soft, moist areas around body openings. Diaper
rash in babies can be from one type of candidal infection. Older girls
and women may develop another form of candidal infection in and around
the private part , and these are called yeast infections.
Golden
Seal herb is considered effective in treating most digestive problems
ranging from peptic ulcers to colitis due to its tonic effects on the
mucous membranes. It is a powerful antimicrobial improving all mucous
conditions, especially those of the sinuses.
Tea
tree oil preparations were tested in four randomized clinical trials
and some constructive outcomes were attributed to the interference in
all trials. It is a cure for many mucosal fungal infections. Tea tree
oil and Grapefruit seed distill may be used for the foreign handling of
candida-related rind conditions by putting 2-3 drops of each in a lotion
or balm and spreading it over the stricken region. Solanum species (two
trials) and oil of acrimonious orange preparations (one test) were
compared with traditional treatments. In all cases encouraging results
were reported. There are few controlled clinical trials of herbal
antifungal medicines.
The
most popular herbal remedy for the care of parrots seems to be aloe. One
popular use of aloe is a topical spray to sooth the irritated skin of
birds that engage in feather plucking. Dramatic results can be obtained
with this protocol when used on parrots who are destroying their
feathers due to an itchy condition of the skin. Even in cases of
psychological plucking, the aloe spray has been known to slow down
feather destruction, due to the fact that damp feathers seem to dampen
the urge to pluck. The easiest way to obtain a quality aloe spray for
parrots is to buy it from a health food store.
Fungal
infections are usually not serious in otherwise healthy individuals.
However, a systemic fungal infection may be severe and life-threatening
for those with compromised immune systems. Good personal hygiene should
be maintained. In the case of superficial infections, the skin should be
kept clean and dry, and care should be taken to avoid contact with
other parts of the body. If someone in the household has a superficial
fungal infection, bed sheets, towels, floors, shower stalls, and other
contact surfaces should be washed with hot water and disinfected after
use.
Oregano extract from
this herb is considered more potent and less harmful than nystatin to
eradicate fungi. It is also considered to be more powerful and
less-toxic in eradicating staph infections.

Detox Diets – Weight Loss Lemon + Cayenne + Maple Syrup Diet Drink
6:34:00 AM
Have you ever tried or even heard
of detox diets? Weight loss lemon detox diet has been quite popular
these days and even celebrities are known to use it.
What is a Lemon Detox Diet?
The
lemon detox diet, also known as lemonade detox or ‘Master Cleanse' diet
is a weight loss and detoxification method that has been used most
especially in Asia since the ages. It is actually a type of detoxifying
drink (a hot lemonade or tea) that you drink every morning from the
moment you wake up, without eating any food with it.
What is in a Lemonade Detox Drink?
The
main ingredient of a lemonade detox drink (as the name suggest) – is
lemon, or more specifically, lemon juice. Its Vitamin C component is
believed to help wash out toxins from the body as well as prevent fat
absorption. It is also high in antioxidants that help the body attain
quick recovery from the toxin cleansing.
The Two Other Ingredients
The two other most important ingredients in a detox lemonade are cayenne pepper and maple syrup.
Weight
loss is also among the most favorite additional features of detox
diets. Weight loss lemon detox drinks with cayenne pepper don't just
cleanse the body from toxins; it also aids in losing weight,
specifically by perking up the body's metabolism and burning excess fats
and calories.
The maple
syrup ingredient is an indispensable component of this detox diet drink,
particulary because it is almost impossible to drink a warm concoction
of sour lemon and hot pepper. Maple syrup provides that natural
sweetness to make the detox lemonade drinkable, at the same time helps
increase ones energy levels most especially because detox diets are
somewhat straining to the body.
What Does This Do to the Body?
This
type of detox diet isn't called ‘Master Cleanse' for no reason. It
improves the over-health of an individual once done with the two-week
long program. The main thing it does is flush out all the toxins that
have built up in the kidney and liver, at the same time treat
constipation and indigestion. It also does wonders in ones
cardiovascular health as it also rids the system of excess salts and fat
congestions in the arteries.
Side Effects
As
much as this type of detox diet is effective, it absolutely has no
harmful side effects. The ingredients are all natural and safe for the
body, except for the fact that this detox drink may cause certain
discomforts for people who are just new to it.
The
first few days you are drinking a lemon cleanse, expect a little
headache and dizziness as well as gas and stomach upsets. Some people
also experience minor diarrhea. These are no cause for alarm though and
in fact should be seen positively as these are signs that the detox diet
is actually working. A piece of advice is to drink the detoxifier in
small amounts first until your body has gotten quite accustomed to it.
(Drink probably just ¼ or ½ cup in your first day then gradually
increase it.)
Lemonade
‘Master Cleanse' is one of the best forms of detox diets. Weight loss
lemon detox drinks don't just help you lose weight; it also helps
improve your overall health.

Herbs Cure Diabetes - Reverse Diabetes With Herbal Remedies
9:46:00 AM
Do herbs cure diabetes? Yes, but you will need to also use your
diet to begin reversing diabetes and eventually cure it. Thousands of
people will cure their type 2 diabetes naturally this year but the
American Diabetes Association will not recognize a cure.
Unfortunately,
pharmaceutical companies do not want you to cure diabetes because you
are funding a billion dollar diabetic industry. However, thousands of
people will cure this disease and many are using herbs to cure it.
In this article, you will learn some simple herbs to begin your home treatment to reverse diabetes.
How to Reverse Diabetes with Herbal Remedies
So
how are the thousands of diabetics curing their disease? Many are using
their diet and exercise but many are using herbal remedies. Herbal
remedies have been around for centuries but only lately have they been
researched to show if they are actually legitimate.
Surprisingly, many experts believe that many common herbs can begin the process to start reversing diabetes.
Here are 4 herbs you may want to start supplementing!
What Herbs Cure Diabetes?
1.
Cinnamon has been a very popular remedy for many sufferers. Perhaps the
most popular remedy, cinnamon has been shown to help better metabolize
glucose and help regulate blood sugar levels.
In one study
researching this miracle herb, all participants who were given cinnamon
significantly reduced blood glucose, triglycerides, bad cholesterol and
overall cholesterol.
You should try to supplement at least 1 gram
of cinnamon to your foods and drinks but you can also take a healthy and
tasty cinnamon tea.
2. You may also wish to supplement
fenugreek seeds to your diet too! A recent study confirmed the seed's
role in reducing blood glucose levels and decreasing triglycerides. The
seeds have also been shown to increase good cholesterol, also known as
HDL. You should be able to find this herb at your local health store.
3.
You may also wish to supplement Asian Ginseng which is also called
Korean Ginseng. This type of ginseng has been shown to significantly
reduce blood glucose levels. 200 mg of ginseng is recommended and should
be avoided by pregnant women and kids.
4. Though not a
herb, are you taking your fish oil supplement? Many health experts
believe that a fish oil supplement is just as important as taking a
multi-vitamin. Fish oil has been researched and confirmed to protect you
against heart disease. But it has also been shown to help reverse
diabetes. The omega-3 fats will even out the blood sugar peaks and
valleys. And normalizing blood sugar is the beginning of reversing this
disease.

Nutritional Supplements and Herbal Remedies For Hashimoto's Thyroiditis
5:20:00 AM
If you have been diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, and are
thinking about using natural treatment methods, then there is an
excellent chance that you have considered taking nutritional supplements
and/or herbal remedies to help restore your health back to normal.
While taking the right kind of nutritional supplements can help with
Hashimoto's, it can be both difficult and risky to attempt treating this
serious autoimmune thyroid disorder on your own.
I have consulted with patients who figured that they can visit their local health food store and purchase a "thyroid support" formula, or a nutritional supplement that boosts the immune system, figuring that these types of supplements would provide the cure for their disorder. The truth is, most of the natural products that people purchase to treat conditions such as Hashimoto's Thyroiditis don't do much to help restore their health. While sometimes these supplements can provide temporary relief from their symptoms, in most cases it takes more than just nutritional supplements to completely restore a person's health back to normal. And of course in some people with this condition, it is not possible to completely restore their health through natural treatment methods (although this doesn't mean they still can't benefit from a natural treatment protocol).
When choosing nutritional supplements for Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, you need to keep in mind that not only are you trying to restore the function of your thyroid gland, but just as important, you need to strengthen your immune system. And in most cases the adrenal glands and/or other areas of the body are affected as well. In fact, many healthcare professionals, including myself, agree that it is more important to focus on boosting the immune system before directly treating the thyroid gland. One reason for this is because a weakened immune system is a big reason why many people develop Hashimoto's Thyroiditis in the first place.
Supplements For Immune System Support
Some of the supplements that can help boost your immune system for people with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis include Echinacea, Selenium, and Astragalus. Of course you should first consult with a competent doctor to determine which of these you should take, as well as the proper dosage. Before purchasing nutritional supplements, remember that the quality is extremely important. This doesn't necessarily mean that you need to buy the most expensive supplements out there, but you do need to keep in mind that most nutritional supplements sold in retail stores, through the Internet, and even in many health food stores are of low quality. And if they aren't high quality nutritional supplements, then chances are your body won't properly absorb them, which obviously means you won't get the optimal benefits from taking them.
So what's wrong with taking an immune system support formula at your local health food store to help boost your immune system? Well, if you can find a high quality immune support formula then that's great, but in addition to all of the low quality ones that are out there, just remember that is extremely difficult to find a single "natural pill" that can do a great job in strengthening your immune system. It is one thing to take a "wellness formula" to temporarily boost your immune system and reduce the likelihood of coming down with a cold or the flu. It is an entirely different thing to expect an immune system support formula to effectively combat an autoimmune condition, such as Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.
It is also important to know that it usually takes more than just ingesting nutritional supplements to strengthen one's immune system. Here are five rules to follow that will help to boost your immune system, as well as help maintain the health of other areas of the body:
Rule #1: Eat healthy most of the time.
Rule #2: Take quality nutritional supplements.
Rule #3: Get at least 8 hours of quality sleep each night
Rule #4: Manage stress effectively
Rule #5: Exercise regularly
If you have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and do these five things with consistency, over time you will strengthen your immune system, which will help with your recovery. In addition, this will also help prevent other autoimmune conditions from developing in the future, which is very common with people who have Hashimoto's. The reason for this is because most people simply take synthetic thyroid hormone for the rest of their lives, and never address the immune system component. So if you focus on strengthening your immune system, then in addition to restoring the function of your thyroid gland, you are much more likely to stay healthy in the future.
Get Your Adrenal Glands Checked Out
Besides focusing on the immune system component, you should also get your adrenals tested, as many people with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis have adrenal problems. And just as is the case with the immune system, the adrenal function needs to be regulated before giving any direct treatment to the thyroid gland. If you try treating the thyroid gland before strengthening the immune system and balancing the adrenal glands, the treatment won't be nearly as effective.
Often times these problems I have spoken about thus far can be resolved by following the five rules I listed above, as eating healthy and regularly will help regulate your blood sugar levels, and in turn might be necessary to enforce rule #3, which involves getting quality sleep each night. Overall, when managing the adrenal glands the main key is to regulate the blood sugar levels. And the two best ways to do this are to 1) get rid of any sweet cravings you may have, and 2) avoid going long periods of time without eating.
Supplements To Address The Adrenal Glands
As for nutritional supplements that can help with the adrenal gland, one important one is called Gymnema, which can help stop any sweet and carbohydrate cravings you might have. You also need to manage the stress in your life, and while this does involve modifying your lifestyle to some extent, one herb that can help with chronic stress is Eleuthero, which is also called Siberian Ginseng. Once again, please consult with a competent doctor to determine the proper dosage of these supplements.
In addition to the immune system and adrenal glands, other areas of the body can be the cause of the problem, so while addressing the immune system and adrenal glands is important, this might not be enough to restore your health back to normal. Some people have problems with their gastrointestinal tract that is the underlying cause behind their disorder. Others have a hormonal imbalance that needs to be addressed. This is why it's a good idea to consult with a natural endocrine doctor, as a competent one will look at other areas of the body, and not just the thyroid gland.
Supplements For Thyroid Gland Support
Speaking of the thyroid gland, there are supplements one can take to help with its function. Many people with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis are iodine deficient. However, someone with Hashimoto's SHOULD NOT take iodine until both the immune system component and adrenals are addressed. If taken right off the bat, iodine can cause more harm than good, and this is one reason why many healthcare professionals will tell someone with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis to avoid iodine altogether. So iodine can be essential to take for a person who has a deficiency, but the timing is extremely important with regards to Hashimoto's.
While there are other supplements and herbs that can offer thyroid support, such as Ashwaganda and Bladderwrack, the fact remains that with Hashimoto's Thyroidits, the thyroid gland usually is not being directly affected. In other words, by addressing the actual cause of the autoimmune condition, often times giving minimal nutritional support to the thyroid gland will be fine. So there usually is no good reason to take many supplements directly aimed at restoring the function of the thyroid gland. By clearing up other areas of the body, and then giving some nutritional support to the thyroid gland, this gland will frequently begin functioning at a normal level again.
This of course assumes that it is possible to completely restore one's health, as in some cases this can't be done. For example, someone who had their thyroid gland completely removed will probably have to take synthetic or natural thyroid hormone for the rest of their lives. On the other hand, this doesn't mean that they shouldn't consider natural treatment methods to help strengthen their immune system, restore the function of their adrenal glands, correct any hormonal imbalances, etc.
In summary, taking nutritional supplements and herbal remedies in most cases can help. However, just because they are "natural" doesn't mean they don't carry any risks, which is why you should never self-treat yourself, and should instead consult with an expert. Since everyone is different, it makes sense that some people will need to take different supplements and herbs, and of course not everyone will need to take the same dosage.
Also, even though nutritional supplements and herbal remedies can help many people with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, taking supplements and herbs alone will not restore your health back to normal. In order to accomplish this, you need to make changes in your eating habits, exercise regularly, get quality sleep each night, and manage the stress in your life. So as you can see, restoring your health is definitely not easy to do, but most of the time it is possible. But the person with this condition needs to be ready to make these changes in their life. If you are ready to make these changes and want to see if you're a candidate for a natural treatment protocol, then consider consulting with a natural endocrine doctor. It very well might be the wisest decision you make this year.
By
Dr. Eric Osansky I have consulted with patients who figured that they can visit their local health food store and purchase a "thyroid support" formula, or a nutritional supplement that boosts the immune system, figuring that these types of supplements would provide the cure for their disorder.

Top 5 Herbal Remedies For Psoriasis
11:13:00 AM
A vast number of our population has been affected by a skin
disease called Psoriasis. This skin condition alters the life of the
sufferer in every way. You can stop this from happening by trying out
some herbal remedies for psoriasis.
What is Psoriasis?
Psoriasis
is a skin disease represented by red and inflamed skin riddled with
thick patches of silvery scales. This condition can appear on any part
of the body, however the most common of which are our knees and elbows.
Psoriasis
happens when the maturity of the skin cells are faster than normal.
Because of this, it is easier t develop dead skin cells on the epidermis
or the outer layer of the skin.
Cause of Psoriasis
The
cause for this condition still evades many experts. However, genetics
seems to play a key role in the development of psoriasis. Studies were
conducted and it showed that about 1 out of 3 people with psoriasis have
a family member with this condition too.
Psoriasis can be
aggravated when a person is subjected to extreme climate changes, too
much stress and anxiety, HIV infection, physical illness or taking
prescription drugs.
How do we treat psoriasis?
There is
still no known cure to psoriasis. However, this should not mean that we
should give up hope on the treatment of this disease. There are many
ways you can do to stop psoriasis from spreading and stop ruining your
chances in life.
You can use topical medications that can
moisturize your skin. Your doctor can prescribe you with steroid creams
and ointments that can minimize the inflammation and the itchiness of
the skin.
You can also try phototherapy. This kind of treatment
utilizes ultraviolet light to speed up the healing process of the
lesions. However, an expert should do this treatment because too much
UVB or UVA light can cause further damage to our skin.
Internal
medications can also be used to reduce the rapid cell maturity going on
in our skin. This can also help relieve inflammation.
There is
also no harm in trying herbal remedies out. Most topical creams contain
one or two herbal remedies that can help soothe your skin. Here are some
of the most popular ones:
Milk Thistle
Milk Thistle is a
wonder herb that can help many diseases including psoriasis. It
activates the human T-cell that usually manifests in psoriasis.
Oregano
This
herb is a natural antifungal and antibacterial agent. This can help
prevent infections from happening in the lesions of psoriasis skin.
Shark Cartilage
Shark
cartilage is very helpful because it has anti-inflammatory properties.
It hinders the formation of new blood vessels that are known to
aggravate psoriasis.
Turmeric
While this is a very good cooking ingredient, turmeric can also reduce the swelling and the pain associated with psoriasis.
There
is also no harm in looking for a topical cream that contains soothing
ingredients that can help prevent the spreading of psoriasis. There is a
cream called ClearSkin-E Cream.
This product is superb in
soothing irritated skin and promoting better skin health and condition.
It does not just temporarily abate the inflammation of the lesions but
it heals it from the inside as well.
ClearSkin-E Cream contains
safe and natural ingredients such as Mentha Pipererita Oil, Bulbinella
frutescens and aloe ferox, to name a few, which are all helpful in
promoting better skin condition just like the herbs mentioned earlier.
Added to this lineup is Vitamin E oil, a powerful vitamin that can
promote healthy skin renewal.
Psoriasis can be bearable with the
use of ClearSkin-E Cream and other herbal remedies and medications. Many
people have joined the advocacy against psoriasis and the prejudice
against people with this condition. You are not alone in the battle
against psoriasis.

The Health Benefits Of Lemons
11:12:00 AM
The lemon tree, like other citrus trees, has its origin in
Central Asia. The Arabs introduced the lemon to Europe in the 12th
century. It was first refined in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula.
It is by no accident that the juiciest, most aromatic lemons are found
in the Murcia region in Spain.
After being customary in Southern Europe, it was introduced to the Americans by Spanish explorers in the 16th century. Today it is cultivated in moderate regions on the five continents. Although the lemon does not prosper in extreme cold or heat, it needs several cold nights while the fruit is ripening to change its colors from green to yellow. It is because of this that lemons in tropical regions tend to be green, as also happens with oranges and other citrus.
However, the most fascinating workings of lemons are its phytochemicals. These are substances that lack any calories, and they are neither vitamins nor minerals. The recent discovery of these substances in foods and their remarkable preventative effects on cancer and other diseases is one of the greatest advances of nutrition science.
Although the lemon affects the entire body, its scientific applications derive chiefly from its effect on the blood:
Anti-anemic: It improves iron absorption
Improves blood fluidity, thus preventing thrombosis
Depurant, facilitating the removal of toxins from the blood
For these reasons, lemons are expressly suggested in the following cases:
Anemia: Lemons should shape a customary part of the diet of anyone suffering from anemia. The lemon also contains a certain amount of folic acid, which aids blood production, as well as many other protective functions, particularly in pregnant women.
Circulatory disorders: Lemons strengthen the circulatory walls, improve the elasticity of arteries and reduce the blood's tendency to excessive clotting.
Excess uric acid: The lemon is highly effective in eliminating uric acid, which is a waste product generated within the body and must be eliminated in the urine. Excess uric acid is a major cause of Gout.
Kidney stones: A lemon treatment is very effective in helping dissolve kidney stones.
Infections: Because of their vitamin C and phytochemical content, lemons improve the body's immune system's ability to resist infections. Lemons are good for all types of infections whether viral or bacterial.
Digestive disorders: Lemon juice diluted with water is an excellent beverage in cases of diarrhea, gastroenteritis, or colitis.
Regular lemon use with meals can also contribute to neutralizing many of the carcinogens found in foods and the environment, and in this way, help prevent cancer.

black to colorless and the irony is that everyone wants to flaunt a
lighter tone. There are various techniques for attaining a beautiful
appearance but it is always advisable to take up nature based products
and techniques for bleaching your skin. Most people perform wrong
methods such as laser treatments for lightening their pelt which can be
extremely dangerous in the long run. Skin discoloration or dark spots
are mostly caused due to excess production of Melanin pigment.
Natural ways to whiten skin and treat hyper pigmentation
* Apply sunscreen before stepping out of your home. It will protect your from harsh sun rays. You should preferably wear sunglasses for protecting your eyes and face from pollutants.
* It is advisable to drink 10-12 glasses of water daily. Water nourishes your skin by hydrating it.

How To Improve Kidney Functions With The Help Of Herbal Remedies
6:23:00 AM
Our kidney takes care of our excretory needs. It is responsible
for purging out wastes in our body. If this malfunctions, your body will
be plagued with toxins and wastes that will eventually lead to body
poisoning.
Most of us think that our heart and our brain are the most important organs of our body. While that might be true, our kidney also deserves equal recognition. That being said, you have to take good care of it so it will function well.
One of the best ways to take care of this vital organ is through the help of herbal remedies. Did you know that there is a plethora of natural remedies that can help cleanse and improve the core functions of the kidney? Here are some of the tried and tested ones:
1. Parsley - Don't think that parsley is just for garnishing. It actually has diuretic effects in the body because of its high potassium content. Natural diuretics are needed to produce urine that can flush out toxins out of your system. This is a good alternative to the prescription diuretics often given to people with urinary problems.
2. Kelp - This is another herb that contains diuretic properties. It contains a hefty amount of potassium. It also works in the same way as parsley. Moreover, it is a great source of iron, iodine and several kinds of vitamins and minerals that make the body stronger and healthier.
3. Juniper berries - These berries help improve the flow of urine from your kidneys. If you are experiencing congestion problems in your urinary tract or kidneys due to stones, this can help alleviate the problem.
4. Lemon - Did you know that drinking lemonade daily can actually help cleanse the urinary tract and the kidneys? It contains good acids that can flush out harmful toxins in the body. It is also a natural diuretic.
5. Ginger - Ginger root has shown great potential in improving other vital organs. Not surprisingly, it also works in improving kidney health. It cleanses the kidneys and facilitates purging of harmful wastes. It reduces toxicity in the body.
6. Uva Ursi - This is an Ayurvedic herb that has shown benefits in treating common excretory system problems. It actually tones the passageways of the urinary tract and strengthens the excretory organs. It is also an alternative treatment for people suffering from kidney stones.
With the help of these herbal remedies, the most vital parts of your excretory system should work well for a longer period of time.

5 Best Herbal Teas For Weight Loss
6:45:00 AM
The weight loss industry has become big business... even herbal
tea manufacturers are jumping on the band wagon at this epidemic
phenomenon. 5 best herbal teas for weight loss explores the nature and
'actions' of popular herbal tea blends that help with weight loss and
weight control.
Having to consider losing weight and hearing that four lettered word... D-I-E-T... is something that makes the majority of us cringe with despair. Whether it's starving yourself on the latest fad diet, or spending ridiculous amounts of money on the newest weight loss program - that make big (yet mostly false) claims to radically reduce your weight in the quickest amount of time - most of us will succumb to this false ideology that looking slim is 'in'.
Herbal teas are a cheaper and healthier alternative in helping with weight loss. But don't be fooled for one second that just solely drinking herbal teas will achieve this. The truth is, there is no magic drink, or pill, or lotion or potion for that matter that can help you lose weight without much effort on your part. The keyword is 'helping' and herbal teas are considered an excellent tonic in aiding weight control and in maintaining a healthy body.
The mantra of regular exercise and a balanced diet maybe hard work to fight the bulge but at least it wouldn't compromise your health in the long run.
Dandelion
Known as the "little plant that roars", it has natural diuretic and laxative properties to remove water and food weight before digestion begins and help your body reduce the feeling of 'feeling bloated'. Many avid dieters believe that diarrhea keeps their bodies from absorbing calories or fat but this is not the case and could lead to dehydration and dependency on laxatives. Dandelion is also a beneficial aid for digestion and because of its mild laxative properties, it can help in bowel movements to become more regular.
Green Tea
Despite not being classed as a herbal tea (as its leaves come from the actual tea plant 'camellia sinensis'), Green Tea has had the most extensive research carried out that has been proven to be very effective in weight loss. This is due to the 'polyphenol' component which is responsible for its slimming effects. It also contains caffeine which gives the drink its stimulant effects and can increase metabolism which helps to burn fat and calories. It is these reasons why the ingredients in Green Tea are widely used in popular diet pills.
Those suffering from anemia should take caution when drinking Green Tea, as it could lead to a reduction in iron absorption in your body which could cause iron deficiency.
Guarana
Guarana's main ingredient is 'guaranine' which is identical to caffeine. It can act as a stimulant to accelerate body functions such as increasing the heart rate, digestion and respiration due to its caffeine content. It is also a diuretic and can stimulate the nervous system and help you fight depression and cope with stress, thus it may help you to avoid 'emotional eating' which is one of the main causes of weight gain. Due to its high caffeine content, those suffering from sleep disorders and anxiety problems should be wary when taking this in large doses.
Hoodia Gordonii
Hoodia Gordonii is known as a 'natural appetite suppressor' and has been used for centuries by South African Khoisan herders to endure lengthy periods without food or water, whilst they were hunting and gathering. It contains the active ingredient, known as P57 which is responsible for appetite suppression that can "fool" the mind in thinking the stomach is full so you're not tempting to snack as much. Caution should be taken as long term use could lead to addiction and malnutrition.
Siberian Ginseng
Known as the "king of tonics", Siberian Ginseng is a popular herb to use for its ability to stabilize blood sugar levels thus reducing the desire to eat sugar and sweets. However, people who suffer from high blood pressure, narcolepsy (frequent and uncontrollable deep sleep) or taking blood thinning drugs should avoid it.
It can stimulate the nervous system and act on the pituitary and adrenal glands to give you stamina and help combat fatigue. An increase in stamina means you can work out for longer without feeling tired! Also used to treat nervous disorders, exhaustion, strengthen organs, increases mental ability and a powerful anti-dote to stress and problems with aging.

A Natural Remedy For Gingivitis, Toothaches, and Mouth Sores
10:36:00 AM
Everyone has a variety of bacteria in their mouth. Some have more
than others. This bacterium helps you by beginning the digestive
process.
Excess bacteria in your mouth have now been found to
cause more than tooth decay, gingivitis or gum disease. So, you need to
know, even though you might not have gingivitis, how to control these
plaque-building bacteria in your mouth.
Bacteria that create
gingivitis live in your plaque and cause your gums to inflame, bleed,
and separate from your teeth. You can also have bad breath when you have
gingivitis. In more severe cases, your gums become sore, teeth hurt,
gums recede, and teeth loosen.
To stop the inflammation and gum
separation use this natural remedy to kill some of these bacteria and
strengthen your gums in your mouth.
Here are the herbs and the formula you will need to make a remedy for a mild case of gingivitis:
2 parts white oak bark herb - powder
1 part myrrh gum herb - power or granules
3/4 part Peppermint leaves converted to powder
1/2 part anise herb - power or seeds
1/8 part clove - powder
If herbs and leaves are not in powder form, grind them in a coffee grinder. Use this formula to make as much powder as you want.
Place the mixture into a small container. I usually use a small-unused vitamin bottle.
I
usually mix a small amount and use a tablespoon as my measuring tool.
For example, 2 tablespoons of white oak, 1 tablespoon of myrrh gum, ¾
tablespoon of peppermint leaves, and so on. The measurements do not have
to be so precise.
How to use it:
To control bacteria in
your mouth, use this power once a week. If you have gingivitis, you can
use this 3 times a day. Place some powder on your toothbrush and brush
your teeth and gums. After brushing spit out, a few time, the saliva and
residue powder. Don't rinse out your mouth since you want to keep the
active herb powders in your month. You can swallow any that remains in
your mouth with no problem.
This powder combination is bitter, but
quite powerful and will get the job done. You can add more peppermint
powder to make it less bitter, if you like.
For severe cases of
gingivitis and toothaches, you can also moist some powder with distilled
water and then place the paste all along the your teeth and gums -
front and back. Leave the paste in your mouth as long as you can. Don't
worry about the herbs getting in between your teeth. This remedy works.
